Earlier this week, Halle Berry was seen on set, filming Bart Layton’s new heist thriller, Crime 101. Yesterday, she was back at work but this time with co-star with Chris Hemsworth, the largest man. You know intellectually that Chris Hemsworth is a big dude, but then you see him next to regular people and it’s like yeah, Chris Hemsworth is the largest man.
Still no confirmation on who is playing whom, but based on vibes, Hemsworth is 100% playing the jewel thief. It’s giving Blackhat, which I am into, because I, an intellectual, know that Michael Mann’s 2015 film Blackhat is good, actually. Especially if you watch the director’s cut, in which Mann restores the film to his intended chronology, which makes it flow better and removes the more obviously Hollywood elements for a slightly more oblique film about the loss of humanity in the age of technology (and romance. All of Michael Mann’s films are romantic).
I will always defend Blackhat because Michael Mann doesn’t make bad movies, but I do think Chris Hemsworth is miscast in the role of an incarcerated computer hacker. Like they actually have to insert a whole dialogue exchange to explain why a computer hacker looks like Chris Hemsworth, it’s so unbelievable. But maybe playing a thief—probably—will work out better for him in Crime 101. And hey, the film reunites him with Mark Ruffalo. We know they have great chemistry already, and if they are in fact playing opposite sides of the line in a cops and robbers heist movie, I’m super into that.
