Dear Gossips,

It was just confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix docuseries will indeed air next month. Page Six reports that the release date will be December 8 and was initially called Chapters but that apparently has now been changed with no further information about the title.

You’ll recall, after the Queen died, there was all kinds of angst and complaining about whether or not it was appropriate for the docuseries to go ahead as planned, with all kinds of rumours about it being pushed back. There was also all kinds of angst and complaining about season five of The Crown and how damaging it would be to the British royal family. Now that season five has premiered and isn’t very good, and is pretty harmless where the British royals are concerned, nobody is bitching anymore.

As for the gossip about the Sussexes’ series – there’s been speculation that the couple was trying to delete some of the sh-t they said during filming and whether or not their comments are inconsistent with what’s in Harry’s book, Spare, due out in January. She told Variety last month that, “It’s nice to be able to trust someone with our story — [Liz Garbus is] a seasoned director whose work I’ve long admired — even if it means it may not be the way we would have told it. But that’s not why we’re telling it. We’re trusting our story to someone else, and that means it will go through their lens.” Some are taking that to mean that it’s probably not entirely untrue that they’re having second thoughts about some of the content in the show and may perhaps be trying to distance themselves from what will end up being aired.

If that’s the case…what about promotion? December 8 is coming up fast and in the days preceding it, from right after American Thanksgiving to the second week of December, is when the media holiday crunch begins. This is typically one of the busiest times on the schedule as everyone pushes out as much content as they can while people are paying attention before the holiday slowdown.

The series about Harry and Meghan. So will Harry and Meghan be on the talk show circuit? Will they be doing interviews? How extensive, or not, will their involvement be? If Netflix paid them all that money to make this show, there’s an expectation to market it, right?

Just looking at the calendar, there’s not a lot of time to go before the series, according to Page Six, premieres. It’s two weeks tomorrow. So far we don’t have a title or a trailer. If they’re dropping that information this week, they should be doing it soon, like today or tomorrow, at the latest, but even that’s kinda late since American Thanksgiving is on Thursday and a lot of people have already logged off. If not this week then Monday? Do we still call it Cyber Monday? When everyone is supposedly online and looking for holiday deals? Or do they steer clear of Cyber Monday and push it back to after the post-Thanksgiving boom? At some point next week, expect a Harry and Meghan takeover.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
