There’s been speculation for a while now – since the fall– about Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler and now we’re starting the new year with confirmation. TMZ broke the story yesterday after Austin did not join Kaia’s family on holiday in December. Apparently they split near the end of the year although they’d not been seen together much in the weeks prior. 

 

Before we get into the gossip about this, though, if there is any – and even if there isn’t… should this really be all that surprising? Kaia is 23, Austin is 33. It’s a pretty specific age-to-era difference. Like, 33 and 43 is closer together in many ways than 23 and 33. In fact, 53 and 63 might be more in line with 23 and 33 because at 53, for a lot of people, for example of professionally, there still might be more of a drive, you might still be in “go” mode than, say, a decade later when priorities and options change. 

 

To go back to Kaia and Austin and where they’re at, respectively, on both the personal and professional level, 23 and 33 isn’t a number gap, it’s a whole situational stage gap. 

As for the timing and whatever possible timing that could be a factor here… 

 

Well…. 

Back in the fall, when people were rumouring about their status, Austin was in New York working on Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing. Zoë Kravitz is also part of the cast and the two were shooting an outdoor kiss scene and the internet was not OK about it.

 

A few weeks later came confirmation that Zoë and Channing Tatum were done. It’s now 2025 and Kaia and Austin are done. So I guess now we can ask…
