Nicole Kidman: Just Another Day
Nicole Kidman was one of the women honoured at TIME’s Woman of the Year event last night. She also participated in a Q&A during the day, and the conversation was focused on the reason she’s been recognised – which we have to specify because Nicole Kidman has so much to be recognised for based on her performances etc etc.
But this isn’t about performance, it’s about WHO she’s performing for:
Nicole Kidman has worked with 19 female directors in eight years, far exceeding the vow she made in 2017 to work with one every 18 months.

The Oscar winner says women directors face a double standard as they are under pressure to “be perfect” when their movies get funded and… pic.twitter.com/XtPCd0uOzV
Reminds me, again, of that tweet that I referenced months ago, referring to her recent output, her relentless output. “Nicole Kidman works like she’s on the verge of homelessness” ...
And so… another day, another project.
They just released the first trailer for her new film, Holland, co-starring Matthew MacFadyen and Gael Garcia Bernal, directed by Mimi Cave.
Once again – and again and again and again – Nicole goes for broke, pouring herself into another story about a woman who refuses the boundaries of expectation. And, also, offering herself up to the meme generator. This shot of her in that Dutch bonnet is hilariously demented:

I wonder if the timing of the Holland drop had anything to do with how Jason Bolden styled Nicole last night for the TIME gala. This dress is custom Chloe and she might be one of the few people who could make it work – the colour and the doily trim and the tiers… like it’s not just that Nicole is tall and slender, I’m not sure Charlize Theron, for example, could sell this the way Nicole is.
She really is one of one on so many levels. Like, how many batteries does she have? Because you know she’s currently shooting a new Apple TV+ series, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, right?
And she told Variety on the carpet last night that the Practical Magic sequel is definitely heading in the right direction.
