Don’t forget about Miley
Today is for the pop girlies, as both Sabrina Carpenter and Mariah Carey are releasing new songs—more on them later—but don’t forget about Miley Cyrus! She just released a new album, Something Beautiful, on May 30, with the visual album coming to movie theaters on June 12 in the US and June 27 internationally.
She’s currently in New York City promoting her album, including a mini-concert and album signing at Rough Trade.
The more Miley leans into Eighties sleaze, the more I like her. She’s also still throwing shade at Liam Hemsworth, in case you were wondering.

The Cyrus family has been in the news for more than just Miley’s music, though. Billy Ray Cyrus’s super unexpected relationship with Elizabeth Hurley was the hard launch no one saw coming, and now they’re red carpet official. Elizabeth Hurley’s taste in men is…interesting.
Miley spoke to the New York Times about her family, including trying to “be more compassionate” to her parents in the wake of their divorce, and how outstripping her dad’s musical success impacted their relationship. Even in the most secure family it’s tough when a kid becomes the breadwinner, and Miley’s comments are not convincing me the Cyruses were the most secure family, saying her success “added a level of complexity” and that “it would be delusional for any of us to think that that doesn't add a level of complication to our already complicated dynamic”.
Country music has a long history of messy families (see also: the Judds, the Williamses, the Carter-Cashes). Miley isn’t a country musician, but Billy Ray is, and Miley knows her roots and can deliver a country tune as well as anyone. Will we one day get a Cyrus family biopic about all their drama? If so, who would play Miley? Besides Miley, that is. Billy Ray, obviously, should be played by Haley Joel Osment.
