Jacob and Olivia make it more obvious

Jacob Elordi showed up to the TIFF premiere of Frankenstein with Olivia Jade Giannulli last week about a month after it was reported that they’d broken up and two days after it was rumoured that she might have been seeing Glen Powell. Given her presence and the fact that she was wearing white and arrived in the same car as him instead of slipping through a back door or an alternate entrance – which many others have done over the years at TIFF – it was pretty obvious that she and Jacob were unbroken. 

Still, someone decided to make sure everyone was aware because PEOPLE had a story yesterday, citing a source who tells them exclusively that Jacob and Olivia are “seeing each other again” and that “... though they’ve been on and off, they still talk all the time and remained close friends. Her family really likes him and they have the same circle of friends.”

Like I said, nobody was out here doubting that they were seeing each other again. Because the people who care about these two as a couple are extremely online, they would have seen what happened in Toronto, and even TikTok wouldn’t have been able to get that situation wrong – there’s only one way to read it. So why put it on blast one more time? Maybe they didn’t get enough play last week, what with TIFF happening and NY Fashion Week starting and a shocking crime that played out on social media that dominated western news headlines for days. Whatever the reason, someone close to either Jacob or Olivia wanted To Make Sure everyone is aware that they are back together. Noted, thank you. 

Not quite as noted, though, is that Frankenstein was TIFF’s runner-up for the festival’s People’s Choice after Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet. Second place is still a win for Frankenstein because it lost momentum out of Venice. Toronto audiences, however, were more favourable and this has given Frankenstein a much-needed boost in the awards race. That conversation, though, has been muted by Jacob’s love life which… 

For an actor who’s been so insistent on being taken more seriously, to the point of being humourless, once again I don’t understand the strategy here with Olivia being such a heatscore at the premiere last week. Unless, you know, he really was that bugged about Glen Powell, lol.
