Michelle Williams has started the press tour for her upcoming series Dying for Sex. I linked to a piece at Vulture about the show last week that’s worth the read if you missed it the first time. This is based on the true story of Molly Kochan who, with the support of her best friend, Nikki Boye, goes on a “sex quest” before she dies of cancer.

Yes, the sex is part of it, but it’s also coming through as a love story, not a romantic one, but the love story between friends – one who asks to be cared for by the person she trusts the most and the other who accepts what’s both a burden and the most precious gift.

Nobody talk to me this weekend. I will be watching Dying for Sex and sobbing into my couch. But also I will be enjoying watching all the sex that Gen X women are having onscreen. You’ve heard about this right? At a time when there’s been all kinds “sex negativity”, as the NYT reported earlier this year, “Gen X Women Are Having the Best Sex”. Vox followed up a couple of weeks ago with a piece about how Gen X women are “the only generation not in a sex recession”. We’re seeing it in the movies and on television and in print. Miranda July’s book All Fours, released last year, got great reviews and is horny and unapologetic. To desire, after all, is to be human.

Anyway, back to Michelle who was at Good Morning America today with co-star Jenny Slate and also seen on her way to Watch What Happens Live yesterday. WWHL is a gossipy show, I wonder what Andy Cohen will ask her, and how she’ll respond. In particular, I really want him to go there with her about Britney and Justin Timberlake.

Because it’s been a minute since Michelle was on promotion. Since The Fabelmans, I think?, in 2022. Britney Spears’s memoir, The Woman in Me, was released a year later and I know you remember who narrated it.

I also know you remember this, but you won’t mind listening to it all over again.

My point is, she hasn’t been asked about voicing Britney and imitating JT yet. Busy Philipps has, and it was on WWHL:

But we have yet to hear from Michelle directly. The only thing she’s said directly, to my recollection, is a short statement at the time of the book’s release: “I stand with Britney”. But she must know that she went viral for it. And, well, Andy is that bitch who would go there, non?
