Demi’s Comeback Plan
Demi Lovato is teasing new music with a fierce new look and confidence to match. The long sleek, jet black hair is back and so is the attitude. Plus, she’s a newlywed so she’s definitely feeling all kinds of inspired.
Over the last week or so, Demi has been posting TikToks and IG photos with captions that have gone on to be confirmed as song lyrics. The comment section is hyped and with good reason – from the sound of the teasers, she is going back to making dance-pop music. The song she has teased in her recent posts sounds upbeat and has a catchy melody with sultry lyrics like “I just wanna feel your hands all over me”. Perfect for a sweaty club night and a callback to the fun pop music that she was making at the height of her career in the mid-2010s.
Demi’s last original full length studio album was 2022’s Holy Fvck, a pop-punk experimental project that saw her dive deep into her emo side. There are definitely some standout moments from that album, “29” especially touched on some very personal and relatable subject matter (yes, the Wilmer of it all) – but the general consensus about Demi and her music career post-2018 is that the songs just haven’t quite hit the way that they used to; and even then it was always a bit of a slippery slope.
Make no mistake, Demi is a powerhouse vocalist and by this point in her career should be considered one of the greats in music. I mean, there’s a reason Christina Aguilera chose her as her musical daughter back in 2018 (a title that Sabrina Carpenter is now attempting to earn). The issue never was her talent, it was the actual music. Sure she had some hits at her peak, “Sorry Not Sorry” even reached the Top 10 in 2017, but after 17 years in the game, for the impact she’s made on pop culture you’d think she’d have at least a dozen major hits to her name.
Demi’s first attempt at a major comeback came after her well-publicized 2018 mental health issues, with a stunning rendition of her song “Anyone” at the 2019 Grammys. While the comeback didn’t quite go the way she planned, plagued with delays and mid-pandemic album release, her fans (the “Lovatics”) are very much still present and rooting for their girl and after hearing the new teasers, I’m optimistic that she can do it this time around.
Demi’s most recent TikTok has her letting us know she’s “so back” with the recording studio in the background as she tosses on some shades and struts. Here she is leaving a Los Angeles recording studio on the same day of posting and wearing the same outfit so it’s safe to say she’s got the new music ready to go.
I love a killer stiletto and jeans combo, casual and fabulous and hopefully ready to serve us pop realness or dare I even say… cool for the summer.
@ddlovato i’m… so back
