Dear Gossips,

The press tour for The Odyssey is still not over – another advantage to a large ensemble cast, beyond their obvious talents, of course. But there’s even more justification for this since there are still a lot of people who’ve yet to see the film, preferring to wait for 70mm ticket availability. Which is why even though it’s been almost three weeks, Elliot Page was careful about spoilers last night during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

This is his second time working with Christopher Nolan, after Inception. And I asked Nolan about this when I interviewed him at the junket at the end of June. He said he invited Elliot back to play a key role – and if you’ve seen the film, you know just how critical his character, Sinon, is to the story. Spoiler alert…

One of the criticisms of Nolan’s The Odyssey is that Odysseus’s cunning is underplayed in service of portraying a man who is broken by guilt and trauma. Sinon, though, is one of two characters whose fates are specifically determined by Odysseus’s strategic treachery. And his scenes are among the most haunting, literally, in the film. This is one of the reasons why Elliot is in the conversation for a Best Supporting Actor nomination along with John Leguizamo and Robert Pattinson. It’ll be really interesting, as we get deeper into the season, how many performances the studio will submit and where they’ll be putting their resources. With Elliot still out there doing promotion right now, it’s clear that he’s definitely a consideration. And he should be.

During the interview, Elliot, who is Canadian, also talked briefly about his girlfriend Julia Shiplett, a comedian who is American. This week, many Americans were introduced to an institution here in Canada, Canadian Tire, thanks to Hudson Williams after he was spotted bopping around Toronto with a Canadian Tire reusable shopping bag. The New York Times just reported on it today. And Julia namechecked the brand in a cute recent video about trying to be Canadian, LOL.

My favourite thing about Canadian Tire is that we can bring our dogs in there and nobody gets mad about it. Here’s Elliot’s full interview on The Tonight Show.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
