Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler were at Jimmy Kimmel Live! on back-to-back days this week and I take this personally, the two of them doing promotion for the same show, representing my range. As in… yes to Aaron Pierre but also yes to Kyle Chandler.
Lanterns premieres on HBO Max this coming Sunday. Highly anticipated among fans of DC Comics, of course, but for me personally, I can’t say I was jacked for this. Which is why it was smart for them to drop the first five minutes this morning. It works for the people who were already going to watch and it works for someone like me who needed the encouragement. There are a lot of good things happening here.
First of all, the dread that they’re setting up with those kids watching TV, that surprised me. But also whatever the time jump is – that’s intriguing. Aaron’s opening scene in the gym, all that sweat and the arms and the HIM of it? Excellent decision. Plus, Kyle Chandler’s HAIR. His hair is underrated but they have styled the sh-t out of his hair in that interview with him in his superhero suit looking kinda weird except that his hair is actually perfect, as if they placed every strand painstakingly to make it look just casually tousled. On Sunday and Monday night, Kyle Chandler’s hair better be viral.
What else happened today…
Alden Ahrenreich in back in demand a decade after Hail, Caesar! when he was Hollywood’s It Boy for five minutes and before he dipped in the Star Wars Universe and they did him dirty. Now he’s a Tony Award winner and apparently had several offers but he’s made his choice, based on the opportunity to work with Michael B Jordan and Austin Butler. So is he the new Miami Vice villain? Shailene Woodley is campaigning for an Emmy for her work in Paradise and if you watch that show, which I do, it’s hard to argue that she deserves to be in the conversation. She was SO good in those episodes, I still feel like crying when I think back to what her character went through. (Go Fug Yourself)
Michael Shannon’s quiet divorce and quiet second marriage… to a woman who is older than him. That’s the real shocker here considering he’s a Hollywood actor. And, well, a straight man. (Celebitchy)
Danny Chau on the sale of the Los Angeles Lakers and what that says about “the bleak new era of NBA ownership”. Rewatching Winning Time and John C Reilly as Jerry Buss might hit a little different now. (The Ringer)
