Dear Gossips,

During the Oscar campaign for Anora, which culminated in a Best Picture win and Best Actress for Mikey Madison, we wrote about how Mikey, who was around 25 years old at the time, was moving on the award circuit the way you might expect for Gen Z – no public personal social media and therefore not much engagement and publicity in the style that you would expect and that we’ve seen from celebrities in her age cohort, or any cohort really. She attended the events that she was supposed to attend and then, for the most part, kept to herself.

Then, after she won the Oscar, she continued to keep a super low profile. We haven’t seen much of Mikey at all for almost two years. She has a couple of luxury endorsement deals and dutifully shows up to fulfill those obligations but beyond that, she’s not selling jeans and/or makeup, we’re not seeing her on a yacht in the Mediterranean, and her love life is not a making headlines.

Mikey is soon about to start press for her new film, Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning – and she plays the lead character, she’s #1 on the call sheet, co-starring with Jeremy Strong and Jeremy Allen White. The Social Reckoning, right now, is expected to be a possible Oscar contender across several categories. We already know that the Academy knows Mikey …but it’ll be interesting to see whether or not they like her in this role, that of a whistleblowing data engineer, pushing for transparency in technology.

During the Anora award season, Mikey was the ingenue in the field, nominated alongside industry veterans, like Demi Moore who was contending that year in The Substance. This year, at the moment at least, Oscar experts aren’t ranking her in the top five projected nominees.

It’s early, a lot can change during the race, but there is another ingenue who is generating a lot of buzz and, if it holds, she too might find herself in the conversation among industry veterans: Inde Navarrette from Obsession.

The Academy loves an ingenue, soooo much more than they love younger male performers (sorry, Timothée Chalamet) – Audrey Hepburn, Marlee Matlin, Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Hilary Swank, Mikey most recently… and the way it’s looking now, with all the momentum, Inde Navarrette is the latest.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
