Jonathan Anderson takes over Dior
Big news in fashion yesterday though it wasn’t a huge surprise – I mentioned last week in my post about the Dior show in Rome that there was speculation that Maria Grazia Chiuri was leaving her post and that Jonathan Anderson was heavily rumoured to be taking over.
It was confirmed yesterday: Jonathan is now the sole creative director at Dior, for both men’s and women’s and couture collection, the first person to hold all this responsibility in the house’s history.

Jonathan is considered one of the most talented designers of his generation. What he’s done with Loewe is amazing. And of course his own brand as well, which he’ll be continuing. The big exciting question is how he’ll merge his own vision with Dior’s parameters. Dior is not Loewe, and Jonathan’s work at Loewe was slightly kinky, edgier than what Dior’s been known for at least since John Galliano. But then again, Dior hasn’t been exciting since Galliano. It’ll be SO interesting to see what Jonathan brings to Dior and especially Dior COUTURE. His work at Loewe had a lot of couture energy but was not officially couture.
This is a huge job, all those collections, a non-stop cycle. I wonder, then, whether or not he’ll have time for costume design for films. Jonathan was the costume designer on two Luca Guadagnino films last year – Challengers and Queer – and both of those wardrobes made an impact on social media. That Challengers t-shirt, for example, and the gorgeous tailoring we saw, especially on Drew Starkey, in Queer.
Speaking of Challengers though, Zendaya might enter the chat. She has never worn Dior on a red carpet (she and Law Roach keep grudges!) but she and Law have a great relationship with Jonathan. As I’ve been saying for months now, Zendaya’s about to own 2026 with at least five major releases, a lot of red carpets and other appearances. Will we finally see Zendaya in Dior by Jonathan Anderson?
What else happened today…
The biggest question mark where Saturday Night Live is concerned is when Lorne Michaels is retiring. He just oversaw the show’s 50th anniversary season. There is all kinds of speculation about who might succeed him. He’s 80 years old. And he kinda sorta hinted at a timeline recently. (Pajiba)
The Fug Girls are wondering if Kerry Washington might need a new stylist. I loved her Met Gala look so I don’t think an overhaul is necessary but this definitely isn’t one of her best looks. The skirt is great but everything else around it doesn’t work. (Go Fug Yourself)
Kylie Jenner is giving the necessary details – I kinda love her for this. Specificity is helpful.
It’s Pride! Here’s a list of the most anticipated queer books of June 2025. (Autostraddle)
Hailee Steinfeld is married and the internet is all about the unexpected guest at the ceremony. This surprised and amused me too. (Celebitchy)
