Robert and Suki head out
Robert Pattinson and Suki Waterhouse were seen in New York today looking like they might have been heading out of the city. We last saw Robert in Cannes where he was promoting Lynne Ramsay’s Die My Love, starring Jennifer Lawrence who came out of the festival as a contender for Best Actress for her performance. It’ll be interesting to see how much we’ll see of RP during award season if Die My Love is considered in multiple categories.
There’s other work to discuss though as he’s involved in two of the most highly anticipated productions on the film slate, three if you consider the long-gestating The Batman part two, although the most recent update on that is that Matt Reeves has yet to finish the script. Before that though, Robert is reportedly playing Hermes in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey which is still in production. And then, supposedly, he'll go right into Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Messiah. There’s no consensus on exactly when shooting is supposed to start on Messiah, but it’s expected to begin at least by the fall of this year since the film is supposed to release in December 2026 so they obviously need to leave enough time (at least several months) for post. Both of those films also star Zendaya and before they’re even ready, he has another project with Zendaya that will likely make the rounds during fall festival season. Really hoping for a TIFF world premiere with this one since it’s TIFF’s 50th anniversary and we obviously want a Zendaya Toronto takeover.
Kristoffer Borgli’s The Drama has been quietly test screening over the last few weeks and it’s starting to generate some buzz over how provocative it is. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film “centers on a couple…who in the days leading up to their wedding, end up in a crisis when unexpected revelations derail what one of them thought they knew of the other.”
That’s a pretty spare description but they’re calling this a satire, a dark comedy, so I can’t wait to know what this secret is, and how it comes out. Whether or not social media is involved since, supposedly, Borgli here is tackling the “blindness of love” and if it’s love in these online times, that blindness has layers. Or maybe that’s just me seeing this through my Love Island brain.
As for where we might soon see Robert and Suki, Paris Fashion Week is coming up, and as one of the most high-profile male Dior ambassadors, I would expect to see RP in Paris, if schedules allow, for Jonathan Anderson’s debut collection. Robert had a strong relationship with Kim Jones who just stepped down from his post as artistic director for Dior menswear earlier this year. It’ll be really interesting to see how he looks under Jonathan Anderson’s stewardship of the house.
What else happened today…
Leslie Bibb and her “c-nty little bob” have been co-hosting on Jenna and Friends this week. She’s great on morning television, I adore her, and this of course is in service of The White Lotus’s Emmy campaign. Not sure she’ll get a nomination but it’s good to see her getting this kind of attention. And she looks great in this outfit. (Go Fug Yourself)
Howard Stern pressed Seth Meyers on whether or not he’s taking over from Lorne Michaels on Saturday Night Live. Seth didn’t answer directly but he did say that he’s not sure he has the stamina to hit the after-parties every week. Although, really, it’s not every week, it’s basically every other weekend. And summers off. This is very manageable! (Pajiba)
Rachel Brosnahan’s answer about doing superhero movies is excellent. (The Mary Sue)
Today in I don’t understand biology, Kelsey Grammar is expecting his eighth child. (Celebitchy)
What I do understand is gossip, and that to gossip is to be human. Every human being gossips, no matter how they identify. Women do not gossip more than men. But straight men are not as good at it. Which means that, in this life skill, they are lacking! (Vox)
