Josh Hartnett had a little bit of a moment last year with Oppenheimer putting him back in front of blockbuster audiences, and now he’s starring in M. Night Shyamalan’s new movie, Trap.
He also has a thriller coming up co-starring Bridgerton’s Charithra Chandran—good things only for Edwina!—and a couple of rather iffy sounding movies, one of which is coming from James Franco, but I am wondering if it’s too early to declare a Josh Hartnettaissance or not?
He’s one of the marquee Millennial movie stars but he sort of blipped off the radar in the 2010s, but can he come back in his dad era? He’s playing a dad in Trap, a man who takes his daughter to a pop concert only to find it’s a trap set for a serial killer. Guess who’s the serial killer? I am sort of mad at this trailer for giving so much away, but then, it’s M. Night Shyamalan so you KNOW there’s going to be another twist. Also, Saleka, the pop singer that appears in the films as “Lady Raven”, is Shyamalan’s daughter, Saleka Shyamalan. How long before Saleka is touring with Gracie Abrams on the Hollywood Nepo Baby Tour?
I can never quit Shyamalan because you never know which of his films are going to be duds and which ones will hit. He has his peaks and valleys, but a lean, mean thriller is right up his alley, cat and mouse is a game he can play. I’m interested to see what he does with Trap, and I’m especially interested to see what kind of momentum Josh Hartnett can sustain in his post-Oppenheimer comeback, if he can turn it into a proper career renaissance. We’ve seen hunks stumble before only to come back bigger than ever, can Josh Hartnett do the same?
