Emily Blunt’s been in London the last few days to promote Edge Of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise. Check them out yesterday at a photo call overlooking Trafalgar Square. She and John Krasinski went out this weekend too – I’ve also attached shots of them leaving Chiltern Firehouse where EVERYONE has been partying lately.
Anyway, The Telegraph recently interviewed Emily about the film. And they brought up one of her old quotes:
A few years ago Emily Blunt said that she would rather do badly paid theatre for the rest of her life than ever accept a role “as a spear carrier in a Tom Cruise movie”. On the eve of the opening of her new sci-fi action flick Edge of Tomorrow with, er, Tom Cruise, I remind her of this statement. “I never said that! What an awful thing to say,” she says, almost spluttering on her iced almond-milk single-shot cappuccino. I pull out the newspaper clipping (an interview in The Telegraph in 2005) and she roars with laughter. “That is so funny. Well, at least I’m not a spear carrier.”
Amazing, right?
No, she’s not a spear carrier. And she didn’t storm off either. Which, I mean, some of them would have. Instead, she spends the rest of the interview being easygoing and not precious, not precious at all, and that’s always been part of her charm. You get the sense that Emily Blunt is over it. Because, maybe, she’s never been on it?

As for Edge Of Tomorrow – X-Men: Days Of Future Past just did monster business at the box office this weekend. And Godzilla did great business the week before. At some point, it’s going to run out, you know? At some point, there’s going to be one who underperforms. Will it be Maleficent? Will it be Tom Cruise? So far the reviews coming out for Edge Of Tomorrow are pretty good (92% at post time on Rotten Tomatoes). But will it be enough?
