Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender did not walk carpets together during award season. They sat together at the shows but they tried not to make their relationship a thing and weren’t papped very often. Was it because they wanted to keep it fresh for their movie? Because Alicia and Michael have been in New York the last few days promoting The Light Between Oceans, opening September 2, and now we’re seeing shots of them out together, with big smiles, on social media, being cute.

The press junket for The Light Between Oceans was this weekend. Joanna covered it for etalk and she’ll share more of her observations leading up to the release date. The release date, by the way, is Labour Day weekend, not usually a great weekend for movies to make money. Maybe that’s why they’re getting out so early to sell. That and avoiding a monster publicity blockbuster called the Olympics.

Anyway, Alicia and Michael were paired at the junket for their interviews and reporters were told specifically not to ask personal questions. They must have liked Joanna though because at one point Michael reached out to hold Alicia’s hand:

In other news, Michael will be honoured by TIFF ahead of this year’s festival at TIFF Soiree on September 7th. He’ll be participating in a Q&A about his career. TIFF announced its 2016 gala and special presentations list today at 10am. I’ll come back to this later today or tomorrow.
