Sarah probably just threw back a shot of whisky to prepare herself for the ignorance I’m about to drop here about Star Wars. Did you see Solo? I saw it on Saturday. It was fine. As Sarah wrote in her review Full Story
Solo isn’t bad, it’s also not necessary

After all the behind-the-scenes drama and production strife, Solo: A Star Wars Story turned out okay. Better than okay—parts of it are really good. Unlike Rogue One, which bears the Frankensteinian scars of a multiple-director vision, Solo is cohesive from beginning to end, tonally and narratively consistent. Full Story
Solo: A Lando Calrissian Story
We’ve all just resigned ourselves to Solo happening to us, right? Like a trip to the dentist—it’s just something we have to get through. A jaunty new trailer has been released to encourage us to take our Star Wars fan service with grace and good cheer, but the most this trailer musters for me is: I like that editing beat with the buttons after “Push it!”, and also the voice of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s droid (she is the creator of Sandra Oh's project Killing Eve Full Story

Shout-out to Emilia Clarke’s stylist who pulled a black dress for her that looked, from where I’m sitting, like the perfect fit. Made to fit. It’s Miu Miu. And it’s tricky. Because of the way it’s cut so open at the chest but then has to be practically molded to her torso. Full Story

HBO finally confirmed yesterday that Game Of Thrones season 8, the final season of the series, will premiere in 2019. Which is what most people suspected anyway, given that they just started production on the new episodes in October and are not expected to finish shooting until this summer, so they’re only validating what everyone was already prepared for. Daenerys Stormborn arrives for the Golden Globe week
Wenn, Bauer-Griffin
Game Of Thrones is up against The Crown, The Handmaid’s Tale, Stranger Things, and This Is Us for Best Television Drama at the Golden Globes this week. The category looked almost the same last year with one exception – Westworld was in there instead of The Handmaid’s Tale. And The Crown ended up winning. Full Story

There’s really nothing like a Game Of Thrones Sunday, is what I texted to Sarah last night when the episode was over. She wrote back like, I KNOW! It feels so good! All that family drama and suspense and posturing and dragons and… fashion! Game Of Thrones is now a proper fashion show! We’ll come back to that in a minute. Full Story
Han Solo & Friends
Wenn, FameFlynet
The Han Solo spin-off does not yet have a title, so for now I’m calling it Han Solo & Friends. The just-released first cast photo shows off Han (Alden Ehrenreich), Lando (Donald Glover Full Story

If you’re the kind of person that doesn’t like to know anything about Game of Thrones while it’s filming, then this post is not for you. There are set photos, they’re not especially spoilery but they do show people standing together in ways suggestive of Important Things Happening, so if you’re spoiler-sensitive, bow out now. Emilia Clarke: Emmy Worst Dressed (Duana)
I don’t dislike Emilia Clarke, and I like the Khaleesi, but I do find her totally unremarkable sometimes – especially when she doesn’t have her trademark white-blonde hair. Very pretty, but not very memorable, maybe. Full Story
Emilia Clarke in Me Before You
Movies about people falling in love when one of them is dying is a particular sub-genre of romantic drama, and the latest entry into the field is Me Before You, a tearjerker adapted by Jojo Moyes from her novel of the same name, and directed by Thea Sharrock, a stage director making her feature film debut.
