Yorgos Lanthimos is not interested in teaching a history lesson, so The Favourite is an historical drama heavier on drama than historicity. Telling the story of Queen Anne, Sarah Marlborough, and Abigail Hill, The Favourite takes a series of events and bends and twists them into a tale of power, women, sex, and privilege. Full Story

As we’ve discussed a few times in the last few weeks,  one of the biggest issues in the music business, maybe the biggest issue in the music business, has been the Free Agency of Taylor Swift. Full Story

The Favourite begins campaigning

Sarah Posted by Sarah at November 15, 2018 18:10:16 November 15, 2018 18:10:16

The Favourite is one of my favorite films of the year—yes, I see that, too—and it will be rolling out starting next week, beginning a hopeful Oscar charge. Leading the way on that is a cover feature in The Hollywood Reporter with its trio of stars, Olivia Colman Full Story

A Star is Born is a big movie. It has emerged as the Oscar Best Picture frontrunner – for now. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga will receive multiple nominations. But that doesn’t mean that they’re running away with it. And they shouldn’t run away with it. Anybody running away with anything is no fun for anyone. Full Story

Earlier this year, Taylor Swift released a cover of Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September”. Describing Maniac is pointless. It’s a dozen different shows stuffed into one larger framework, and if it accomplishes nothing else, it at least makes me want to see a fantasy series starring Emma Stone as a half-elf ranger with a drinking problem. Emma Stone by Jennifer Lawrence

Lainey Posted by Lainey at August 15, 2018 19:02:12 August 15, 2018 19:02:12

Emma Stone, ahead of the release of Netflix’s Maniac, covers the new issue of ELLE and specifically requested to be interviewed by her close friend Jennifer Lawrence. Emma Stone + Jennifer Lawrence? It would have been an instant sell for the magazine, obviously. Full Story

Cary Fukanaga’s next thing

Sarah Posted by Sarah at August 7, 2018 19:09:58 August 7, 2018 19:09:58

Cary Joji Fukanaga has been absent our screens since Beasts of No Nation. He returns to Netflix in September, though, with a limited series called Maniac that he adapted from a Norwegian show. The details have been scarce until now, about six weeks before the series debuts, as we finally get a trailer giving us very little real idea of what this show will be. Full Story

Fancy Historical Treachery

Sarah Posted by Sarah at July 10, 2018 15:04:47 July 10, 2018 15:04:47

History is bonkers. This is a fact. It’s the one thing truly getting me through this moment in American history—I’ve been revisiting our past and it is a constant reminder that all of history is comprised of madness and cruelty, and somehow, we always survive. This is also why I love history, because you can’t make this sh*t up. Full Story
