Justin Bieber needs his fans

As you may have heard, Justin Bieber doesn’t do meet and greets on tour anymore. And he has declared that he will no longer be taking photos with fans. On the one hand, I can understand how it all might feel oppressive to him. I don’t say this facetiously – being adored with such intensity can be suffocating. You ever been with someone who was so into you it felt… scary? Not all fans are scary, though. So the balance that JB can’t seem to find is how to engage them meaningfully without compromising the part of his soul that he feels is being stolen when he’s in close proximity to them.

However, while he’s still trying to figure that out, is it fair of him to ask them to fight his battles? Like on the internet? Justin is pissed at HollywoodLife. And yesterday, after posting this photo of himself being grateful to his fans for his life…

He then appealed to them to take HollywoodLife down:

Well that’s not obvious. Like taking out the trash and washing the dishes and doing all your homework and then asking your parents if they’ll buy you a car.

Jezebel has a good summary of why JB is beefing with HL. In short, like all celebrities, you can only write nice sh-t about them and if you don’t, they bitch about privacy and whatever. Freedom of the press, but only if the press is positive. Which brings us to Peter Thiel, the billionaire who funded Hulk Hogan’s lawsuit against Gawker. Gawker filed for bankruptcy last week. Wired published a piece about the situation on Saturday and while I definitely recommend the full article, this is the passage I want to highlight:

“At its worst, Gawker errs on the side of too much information. That may be the case with the Hogan post. But that should be an editorial question, not an existential one.”

Justin Bieber wants HollywoodLife to cease to exist too. Agree or disagree?
