Keira Knightley was out in London last night after getting married to James Righton in France and then honeymooning in Corsica. They were away for about a week. Back at home now, she hit up the Groucho Club with some friends on her own wearing the same leather jacket she had on over dungarees. There’s a wardrobe investment, right? A leather jacket you love is always a good investment. Because you’ll wear it all the time. Which means you can easily get the cost-per-wear (I talk about this a lot -- my “CPW”) down to almost nothing.
Keira’s is Balenciaga. It retails for $3000 if you count the tax. Here’s how I would try to justify it beyond my usual rationalisations, like we don’t own a home and we don’t have kids so we don’t have to put away for our child’s education, and, oh yeah, the reality of my credit card not going that high:
If I bought this jacket, I’d wear it at least 15 times a month for at least 5 months of the year for at least 3 years. That brings the CPW down to $13...unless I see another jacket I like next year, although of course, when you’re making purchases like this, you always promise you’ll never love another jacket as much as you love this one.
