This year marks the 25th anniversary of The Fast and the Furious, the first movie that would eventually become a franchise, released in 2001. Since then there have been nine more, for a total of ten at the moment, with a planned eleventh installment called Fast Forever.

Last night there was a fan event to celebrate the milestone, with several Fast Furious family members in attendance including Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Meadow Walker representing her father, Paul, and of course the family patriarch, Vin Diesel.

Fast Forever is supposedly the fast family’s furious final flight. And Vin was asked for a family update and whether or not this will truly be farewell for the family, and how likely it will be that the family is truly saying farewell forever.

I’m sorry… FOUR sets of writers? Sorry, I know these movies mean a lot to these people and to their audience but, like, writing was never the thing that made the family so fast and so furious…? The thesis for every movie since the first movie is simple: family. All you need is family, and the characters talking about family, plus a few stunts that are beyond ludicrous (haha), like Dom driving a car up the side of a high-rise by the harbour and then backflipping it onto a cargo ship in the ocean below, with the exhaust fumes from the vehicle spelling out “FAMILY” in the blue sky and that’s all you need. Nobody is asking for more than this.

But, also, nobody is buying that this will be the family’s finale. The family is infinity. That’s going to be the title of the next movie.

What else happened today…

I actually don’t remember why Rosie O’Donnell and Jimmy Kimmel had beef but it’s squashed now so I guess it doesn’t matter. (Pajiba)

The Fug Girls are asking our opinion on Michelle Buteau’s jeans, specifically how she’s cuffed them. Wide cuffing, tall cuffing, whatever you want to call it. Normally it’s a no for me but I quite like this on her. And maybe it’s because it’s an unfinished hem? (Go Fug Yourself)

Princess Diana’s brother has written a book about her ahead of the 30th anniversary of her death next year. He was memorably pointed when he eulogised her at the funeral and everyone knew at the time that that was just the tip of the iceberg. The book comes out next month which means that this fall, Buckingham Palace will be dealing, yet again, with more headlines about how they treat people who marry into the family. Wonder how visible the King Charles and Consort Camilla will be over the next few months. And whether or not there will be a new wave of anti-Sussex stories to counter the surge. (Celebitchy)

Dominique Faulkner writes about reckoning with how Hollywood failed Hayden Panettiere. So many millennials grew up watching her. And so many stars of their generation have passed, it’s a complicated conversation about being entertained by someone who, in providing that entertainment, sacrificed so much. (Refinery 29)

This one is for our site manager, Emily: Twilight, but Bella is gay. So basically Emily’s fantasy since 2008. (Autostraddle)
