I’m trying to remember if the Olympics have ever been such an A-list celebrity parade before, or if it’s happening this year because the Games are in Paris, a major world fashion and culture capital, which is drawing a contingent of celebrities who might otherwise not be at the Olympics, like Zendaya and Law Roach.
Last night, Vogue sponsored the “Prelude to the Olympics” along with LVMH and Comcast NBCUniversal in Paris, and it brought out basically everyone? Anyone not in California for Comic Con was in Paris, is how it feels anyway.
Besides Z and Law, there was a clutch of musicians such as Mick Jagger, Rosalía, Tyla, and Snoop, though he’s in Paris as a commentator for NBC.
Louis Vuitton men’s creative director Pharrell was there, too, as were event co-hosts Charlize Theron, four-time gold medalist Serena Williams, Omar Sy, and the aforementioned Rosalía (Jeremy Allen White was also present).
Athletes such as Shaun White, along with Nina Dobrev, LeBron James, Naomi Osaka, Nastia Liukin, Aly Raisman, Novak Djokovic, and Lindsey Vonn were there, but so were Spike Lee, Judd Apatow, Taika Waititi, and…John Mulaney? This guest list is total chaos. I hope the Paris Olympics keeps up this level of chaotic energy for the next two weeks. Mash all the sport people, fashion people, society people, and movie people together and see what happens.
