Last year, I reviewed Alice Winocour’s film Couture, starring Angelina Jolie, at TIFF. The film is fine, mostly notable for Angelina Jolie’s sensitive performance. But Couture is now being released into theaters at the end of the month, so Angelina is outside, doing promotion. She was in New York yesterday for a screening of Couture.

I admire Angelina’s commitment to her personal style. She has never been a fashion girlie—though she has been in some fashion moments, such as The Leg Dress at the 2012 Oscars, which became a meme. But Angelina’s style is usually dictated by her preference for flowy, even sack-like dresses in neutral or achromatic shades. Case in point, she wore a flowy, strapless black dress and a white coat to the Couture screening.

Most people, when promoting a film about Paris Fashion Week, would probably wear something very fashionable to such an event. Especially these days, with theme dressing all the rage. But not Angelina. Or rather, she IS theme dressing and the theme is “I don’t change my style for anyone”.  This is how Angelina has dressed for at least twenty-five years, and while she can glam it up at times, when picturing her red carpet style it’s a lot of black and brown and loose.

In other Angelina news, her Los Feliz estate is still for sale. With a price tag of $30 million it’s not going to sell fast. But I am checking on it. I am SO curious to see who buys Cecil B. DeMille’s house next.
