Dear Gossips,

I’ve been making jokes about Taylor Swift’s Madison Square Garden wedding, because that just sounds made up. Like if someone set a creative writing assignment and the prompt was “pop star mega wedding” someone would run with “Madison Square Garden wedding”. It sounds almost like a pun The Onion would use in a headline. But maybe it’s actually happening, in some capacity, at least.

TMZ is now refining their headlines, with the latest claims from “sources” being that a “massive” stage is being built at a facility in Pennsylvania for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s “wedding celebration” at MSG. The new scope of the story is that the actual wedding will be before July 3, but then on July 3 TNT will have a “wedding celebration” at MSG with 1,000 guests.

This…actually sounds plausible. Given Taylor’s known love for July 4, and that this year everyone is pulling out all the stops for the 250th year of America (I’ve been planning my DIY fireworks display for months), and her connections and friends throughout the music business, a wedding concert kind of makes sense. Maybe even a lot of sense. Like I can see a scenario of a smaller, more private wedding the week before, then a blowout NYC spectacular on July 4 weekend, Taymerica 2.0 reborn in the TNT era. And New York puts on arguably the best July 4 fireworks display in the country, so TNT’s guests could enjoy that the next day. This actually makes more sense the more I think about it.

But perhaps the most compelling piece of evidence for a TNT MSG wedding spectacular is that New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani maybe blabbed a little about Manhattan wedding plans. When asked about the city’s security preparations for the World Cup, Mamdani said, “We are used to big events, and we are incredibly excited for this one. We know it coincides with the Knicks’ [NBA] Finals run. We know it coincides with July Fourth, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding — all happening at the same time…”

So some part of TNT’s wedding is happening in New York, and it’s big enough to get the mayor’s office involved. The Madison Square Garden plan looks less like an Onion headline than it did twenty-four hours ago.

Is it what I would do if I had a billion dollars? No, you’d find me in south of France or a castle in Ireland or similar. But I’m also not a pop star. My friends aren’t all crazily talented musicians. I don’t have the logistical know-how to put together a wedding concert at Madison Square Garden. So of course, this plan would not even occur to me, even if I did have a billion dollars. I’m filing the TNT MSG wedding spectacular under “Couldn’t be me, but you do you”.

Live long and gossip,

Sarah
