As mentioned earlier, there’s been a lot of Grammy coverage in the trades and entertainment outlets because Grammy nomination voting is happening right now and it’s a pretty competitive year, with female artists dominating the industry. Between Ella Langley’s megahit “Choosin’ Texas” and Olivia Dean and Olivia Rodrigo’s commercially and critically successful albums, plus Rosalía and Brandi Carlile and Phoebe Bridgers and RAYE, the field across all the major categories is ladies first. And we haven’t even talked about Taylor Swift.

Of course she’s submitted for Grammys consideration – for The Life of a Showgirl and also “I Knew It, I Knew You”. It is my opinion that TLOAS album is not her strongest, certainly not in comparison to her previous winners (Fearless, 1989, Folklore, Midnights) and not in comparison to the other works in contention – and it would seem like a lot of her own fans feel the same way. But, she is the only artist in history who has won the Album of the Year Grammy four times and given its commercial success, especially that first week sales number, TLOAS cannot be considered a longshot. And definitely not when Taylor, as always, is actively campaigning.

In addition to the AOTY category, Taylor’s also pushing for Record and Song of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia” and “I Knew It, I Knew You” respectively. It’ll be really interesting to see where everything lands and whether or not everybody can be normal about it (probably not).

Taylor and Travis Kelce were seen out for dinner in New York this weekend with his team on a bye week after starting the season with four straight wins. Interesting parallel here with Taylor hoping to win all the Grammys for an album that’s so much about Travis and Travis going for a Super Bowl title for the first time as her husband. They’ve already told us that this is a thing for them in their relationship – that despite thriving on different career paths, they have so much in common in their approach.

But let’s talk about her outfit because it’s pure autumn coded for an autumn girl and super on trend from top to bottom. Starting at the bottom because we were already seeing this in the spring – I posted about the dark brown/burgundy ruched loafer back in April. Taylor’s in the Saint Laurent Le Loafer Cassandre.

I also have been talking about the staying power of brown, from well before brown’s usual season. Brown has been big all year, through the spring and the summer and remaining prominent in the fall. Brown on corduroy is a double hit, because corduroy is everywhere. Taylor’s corduroy pants are The Row, which is always obscenely priced, but you don’t need The Row to do corduroy pants. I’ve bought three pairs of corduroy pants in the last four months – they’re so comfortable, they’re cute, and they’re durable. And our stylist has been pulling a lot of corduroy for me for ETALK, in brown but also other colours.

We had a fitting just this morning and I tried on the Banana Republic Mid-Rise Relaxed Corduroy Painter Pull-On Pant in camel brown and navy blue. Let me repeat – they are PULL-ON. But they sit so well at the waist, like grown-up pants, and the length is great for sneakers, oxfords, and ankle boots. We ended up keeping them in the blue colourway.

LL Bean also has a pretty classic pair – the Women's 207 Vintage Corduroy Pants, High-Rise Wide-Leg is from another time, in a great throwback way but cut way better around the waist and hips compared to in the 70s.

The Corduroy Volume Pants at Uniqlo are pleated and what I like to call Japanese trouser shape, I love them. They look great under a sweater or a t-shirt. And that’s a very reasonable price point.

Same goes for the Reitmans High-Rise Barrel Corduroy Pants which I’ve had for a month and want to live in. These are casual corduroy pants, like joggers but corduroy, perfect for errands – or travelling. I think these might be my cold weather pants on a plane, I like them so much.

The Wide Leg Trousers from Sézanne are the standout in terms of colour, this cognac is stunning, and the pants are a wider thicker corduroy which really works with shade. Don’t be afraid of the “wide leg” – they’re not that wide, like slightly wider than straight leg.

That also applies to the dark chocolate Easy Wide-Leg Pants at Gap. Sure they’re wide-leg in the sense that they’re not tapered but they do fall nicely to the foot without flooding. Plus… elastic waistband!

While we’re here at Gap though, and we’re talking about fall style staples that work with cords…

I’ll do another post about it soon but there are some really popular items that are discounted now or that constantly need to be restocked so let me just put that in front of you. I bought the following last week:

Gap’s CashSoft Crew Sweater comes in so many colourways but the stripes are the all-stars. I bought this sweater last Thursday in “happy stripe” which is now gone. The pink stripe is my second favourite and pair really well with cords.

Speaking of the “happy stripe”, I like it so much that I also got it in the CashSoft Half-Zip Pullover. I looooove this colourway in the oversize, it’s old-school and modern at the same time. And works with practically every bottom. When I bought the other day all sizes were avail. Sizing is now limited and by the end of the week, I feel like the “happy stripe” will be on waitlist.

Finally, all the olive and brown fall energy in the form of a dress – that I happen to be wearing while I’m writing this because it’s my show outfit of the day. It’s actually a great all-season because it’s light but if you’re looking for a fall dress to add some freshness to your wardrobe, the Cos Fluid Scarf Detail Dress is for work and dinner, day to night. The defining feature of this piece is that it’s a one-piece but the way the top is layered it looks like two, so there’s a blousy effect that is soft and pretty and there’s so much movement. Also from the side you can see the separation and it creates a nice flow through the silhouette. Good value for this price-point too because you’ll wear it again and again. FYI I’m wearing it one size up because I like my clothes roomy.
