Zendaya: More Drama and loafers
I have not watched the new season of Euphoria, even though I watched the first two seasons of Euphoria. In my feed, I can see that *some* people are talking about season three of Euphoria but I’m not sure it’s being talked about as much as the series would need in terms of numbers, the kind of numbers that correspond to hype.
Not even sure there is any hype since it premiered during the first week of Coachella and so much cultural buzz has been focused on the festival and, also, BTS’s comeback and tour kickoff and The Devil Wears Prada 2 and on top of that, even if the conversation about Euphoria is loud (and it’s just not hitting in my algorithm), it’s not the kind of loud, the kind of chatter, that makes more people want to join in on the chatter. Heated Rivalry, for example, was the kind of series that generated so much noise that others wanted to add to the volume. Most of the talk about Euphoria S3 is that it’s gross, it’s exploitative, it makes no sense, it’s bad…
You know who isn’t talking about Euphoria though? Zendaya. She did her job, dutifully fulfilled her obligation to the series; showed up for the premiere to show her face and then left without screening it, but has barely done any press to promote the show in which she is, ostensibly, the main character. Instead, The Drama remains her priority, as she stepped out to work alongside Robert Pattinson, in the film’s third weekend of release, to attend a special screening the other day. And The Drama most certainly is a win for her, for both of them. Per The Playlist:
“… A24 has another success story with “The Drama.” The Robert Pattinson and Zendaya drama earned another $4.8 million for $39.6 million to date. A24 pre-sold a good chunk of its $28-30 million budget to international partners. Overseas, the film has taken in $56.9 million for $96.5 million so far. In something of an under-the-radar surprise, it will cross $100 million tomorrow. A24 reports the film continues to hold well word of mouth with holdover territories dropping just -30% since its first weekend.”
By now, probably, The Drama has crossed the $100 million mark so it’s looking like $120 or $125 is possible by the end of its run on a reported budget of $28 million. After The Drama, it’ll be The Odyssey, then Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and then Dune 3 …
What will Zendaya’s 2026 total box office end up being?!? And remember, Shrek 5 was originally scheduled for this year but pushed to next year – imagine how much bigger it would be with that added to her bank?!
Now let’s talk about her outfit, because I love it. Her t-shirt is Emily Dawn Long, a limited edition collab for the film, now sold out.
She wore it over a slip skirt, on trend with all the slip dresses and overall lingerie style that I posted about a couple of months ago (with recommendations). And the shoes are also very much on trend too. All the fashion girls and boys have been slipping on loafers with their jeans for the last few months which, of course, lines up with the overall 90s style resurgence over the last 18 months.
Loafers are a very regular part of my shoe rotation, I basically have a loafer and oxford library. I will never not stop and look at a pair of loafers, of all varieties, and add to the collection because they work with almost everything in my closet – jeans, trousers, skirts, dresses, shorts in the summer, maxi skirts, baby dolls, most of my clothes are purchased so that they will pair well with loafers and oxfords.
The low profile loafer on Zendaya looks, to me, lool like the Mansur Gavriel ruched loafer in oxblood. They’re gorgeous. But they’re not cheap.
For a less expensive version, very similar, just without the band across the top of the foot, but still with the ruching, Poppy Barley has a great pair in red, and I can tell you from personal experience, they’re very comfortable.
Also Banana Republic has a pair, same vibe, in two colourways, though not in red. The mushroom taupe, though, is quite chic.
And Alohas has a burgundy ruched loafer that just dropped because, like I said, everyone’s doing a loafer right now.
While we’re here, though, let’s throw in some lug sole loafers. It’s been five years since Prada added the loafer to its Monolith line, one of the most coveted shoes of the Covid era, and they remain very popular. Farfetch currently has a good range of sizes but that might not last long because, again, it’s pretty much a hero shoe at this point… to go along with the Prada classic loafer that will never go out of style.
The Prada Monolith Sandals have also enjoyed an extended moment and they’re now available in crochet – these are f-cking gorgeous.
I have a pair of studded oxford Prada Monoliths, and they look amazing, but I only break them out once a year because they’re heavy, and I try not to take them outside much. For me, the entire Monolith range is weighty, so I’ve been looking for alternatives that I can walk in, like for a while, not just a couple of blocks. The sandals in particular, because for two years I’ve been eyeing the Prada cages, but I need something lighter. And a couple of weeks ago I finally found what I’ve been looking for… at Timberland, which surprised me.
The Timberland Stone Street Platform Buckle Shoe comes in four colourways. I got them in the rust colour – they’re on sale at Simons right now but running out of sizes. Sale or not though, that’s a way better price point than Prada and even though they’re not the signature Monolith shape, they come with a lug sole for a bit more height and they’re very, very cute and I can kick the sh-t out of them all summer.
