Dear Gossips,

Yesterday, in the last post of the day, I mentioned that our Kathleen, who will always be our Kathleen, and is now the Senior Content Director of Entertainment for Refinery29, has been a Tomdaya day one – relevant now because every Tomdaya fan has been feasting for weeks, first with The Odyssey press tour and then Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Every day is an excellent day for the Tomdaya faithful because every day Tom Holland and Zendaya have been out here being cute and goofy and loving and sweet and… all of the warm and fuzzies that have made them the internet’s favourite couple.

It’s the edits. There are so many edits on social media. For people like Kathleen, and admittedly me too, it’s like the algorithm is spamming us with the edits, but maybe spamming isn’t the right word because spamming is unwelcome, and this is very, very welcome. Kathleen and I exchanged a couple of them yesterday. Here’s one she sent me. As you can see from the likes on this post, Kathleen is hardly alone.

@rand0mfamous never get tired of seeing them 😭 #tomdaya ♬ original sound - ilham

I will refrain myself from spamming you with all of this joy, even though we could use more of it in this timeline! Except of course we must acknowledge the latest entry into the Tomdaya Exhibit of Adorableness. From his appearance last night on Late Night with Seth Meyers – full interview is here and the moment happens around the five minute mark but we’ll just isolate it so you can watch it on repeat if you want.

It’s rare. Rare for a celebrity couple to be so unpolarising and unproblematic. That has a lot to do with our collective desire to protect them, not ask for too much, feel conflicted about enjoying them this much because we also know that they’re extremely protective themselves. But at the same time enjoying it with gratitude while we can because they’re about to disappear. Temporarily, until award season and Dune 3, probably. But then after that…if these two can go off and get married and nobody even had a hint of it and nobody still has anyyyyyyyy details about when it happened and where it happened and who was there and what they wore and, and, and, and, they are entirely capable of living off the gossip grid. Which is where they’ll be, soon.

As for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, we’re getting some more definitive projections now with the box office. The film has already hit $200 million in presales. Right now the estimate is at around $465 million worldwide for opening weekend… and that’s on the low side. It’s already for sure that Tomdaya will sit in the number one and two spots at the box office this weekend, it’s just a matter of how high those totals will be.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
