The Odyssey opens on Friday, and the New York premiere was last night, the last big blow out red carpet before what is sure to be one of the biggest films of the year opens. You know what that means, every famous person showed up, because every famous person is in this movie, and it was a major fashion event. So major, in fact, I’m breaking it up into two parts.

First up, the goddesses of The Odyssey, led by Zendaya, who showed up in actual wings.

The dress is Matiéres, from their fall/winter 2025 collection. I am of two minds. One, she’s Zendaya, she never looks bad. Two, this is too much of a costume to me, crossing the bounds of theme dressing into Halloweentown. But also three! A surprise third mind! I LOVE the hair. We know her real hair is short right now, but this braided wig is great.

It’s romantic and beautiful and brings a kind of Pre-Raphaelite quality to the whole look. I don’t hate it, or anything, I just appreciate theme dressing more when it’s less literal. But this is certainly A Choice for the final carpet of this mega press tour.

She wore a completely different dress on the way TO the premiere, though, so now I have a lot of questions about the logistics. Where and when did she change? Law Roach drop the video explanation!

I actually wonder if there was a bit of collusion going on, because Anne Hathaway also chose white for her final gown (it’s custom Prada). She looks radiant:

And Charlize Theron opted for white, too:

It’s custom Dior and Tiffany jewelry. I love the red lip, and Charlize is one of the only people who can do the wet look with her hair and not look greasy.

Lupita Nyong’o, however, went in a different direction. She wore a gold gown by Nicholas Oakwell and a stunning pearl choker from Sabyasachi. Lupita and pearls will always remind me of her Oscar gown that got stolen and was then found in a bathroom. Like did someone decide they would never be able to fence it without being noticed? This is a heist story I would love to know more about.

Here’s a closeup of that choker and also that FACE. Jesus. I just am not accepting anyone but racists having an issue with Lupita playing Helen of Troy. That face WOULD launch a thousand ships.

My review of The Odyssey will come later this week, but it’s going to be an Oscar powerhouse. The craft and technical aspects are insane, and you could practically fill the acting categories with this cast alone. Lupita’s dual performance as Helen and Clytemnestra is one of the most interesting in the film. Like if I was in grad school, I could excavate a thesis out of it. I could come up with a number of theses from this film, actually. It’s a comparative literature major’s dream.
