Michael B Jordan and RAYE were seen at Six Flags the other day with some friends and we all assumed, happily, that they are dating. Yesterday, however, there were some mixed signals about whether or not that’s actually true.

First PEOPLE reported that their day at the park wasn’t their first hang, citing a source who said, “Things are new between them. RAYE tells friends that Michael is her type and that he is warm and kind.” But another PEOPLE source insists that the two are “just friends”. It’s the kind of reporting that covers all bases and ultimately tells us nothing.

Then a few hours later, TMZ with a more definitive position, citing sources who say that RAYE is working on music for one of MBJ’s projects and that’s it, no dates, no romance, no gossip. And …nobody wants to hear this. I am choosing not to hear this. Because if there’s nothing sparking here, why were they sitting together on all the rides? OK, fine, just two rides, from what we’ve seen from the fan videos shared on socials. But still, two rides is enough for me to cling to, let us have this!

As for the music and the project, the other assumption here is that it would be for The Thomas Crown Affair, right? The film is why MBJ spent so much time in London, they’ve been in post for almost nine months ahead of the March 2027 release, the schedule tracks, and so does the vibe. The Thomas Crown Affair is supposed to be sultry, moody, the second remake of a film that was originally released in the 60s so there should also be a bit of throwback groove to it – and that’s exactly the energy of RAYE’s music: soulful, like from a previous era, but also contemporary and modern and fresh. Thomas Crown and RAYE make all the sense.

But also, so do RAYE and MBJ! So much that I think we’d even take it in fauxmance form. Like one of the only fauxmances in history that gossips would actually support and encourage. Even if they faked it I would take it.
