Michael B. Jordan understood the assignment with first teaser for The Thomas Crown Affair

Michael B. Jordan is the reigning Best Actor, but he is not taking any time off from straight f-cking excellence as he is back in the director’s chair for The Thomas Crown Affair, his update of Norman Jewison’s classic heist thriller-romance. The original 1968 film starred Steve McQueen as Thomas Crown, a thrill-seeking rich guy who does heists for fun and profit. Faye Dunaway plays the investigator who tracks and falls for him. In 1999, John McTiernan remade the film with Pierce Brosnan and Renee Russo, and now MBJ is joining the Thomas Crown legacy.

The teaser for MBJ’s take on the story dropped today and in case you did not see Creed III, MBJ’s directorial debut, you can see that he has a very good eye and a knack for action. MBJ’s Thomas Crown Affair looks GREAT, full of sexy locations and daring moments and MBJ as Thomas Crown and Adria Arjona as the investigator who tracks and falls for him. MBJ understood the assignment, as they say.

Adria Arjona joined the project after Taylor Russell left during the first of week of filming in late 2025. There was never a solid reason for that beyond the ubiquitous “creative differences”, but this would have been her biggest role to date in a mainstream film, and it’s never great when an actor departs a project during production. But credit to the publicists for locking this one down, because beyond vague speculation, some of which laid any problems at Russell’s feet with no real sourcing, not a whiff of what really went down escaped set.

But looking at the teaser, it does seem like Adria Arjona is a good choice, she has a natural glamor that combines with toughness on screen. I can believe her as a crack investigator who gets sucked into the sexy world of a thrill-seeking rich guy, and she looks great on screen with MBJ, which is actually an important part of this film. The Thomas Crown Affair is all about the visuals, style, and sexiness.

Sex appeal is baked into the roots of The Thomas Crown Affair, even in more circumspect cinematic times the 1968 film features plenty of smoldering between McQueen and Dunaway, and the 1999 remake was blatantly sensual. MBJ’s version doesn’t have a rating yet, but I hope it is R-rated, in keeping with the sexy spirit of this film legacy. We can all survive another round of the sex scenes in film discourse for MBJ’s sexy Thomas Crown Affair update.
