Sasha texted me this morning after watching the video for BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez’s new song “Ice Cream” writing… “This is a JAM”.
It is indeed a jam. A suggestive jam, not super overtly suggestive, but it’s pretty clear what they’re getting at with these lyrics off the top:
“Even in the sun, you know I keep it icy
You could take a lick, but it's too cold to bite me (Haha)
Brr, brr, frozen, you're the one been chosen
Play the part like Moses, keep it fresh like roses (Oh)”
You know what Moses parted, right?
Whatever Moses is parting, it’s still safe for radio. And cute and sexy and fun and my bias Lisa’s flow is smoother and swaggier than it’s ever been. This is on the weekend soundtrack, crank it up and bop to it whatever you’re doing – in my case while I’m walking over to Lara’s tomorrow night for a backyard hang, and then at some point over the next few days as I study all these looks!
Many more views are required to get a full appreciation of the visuals Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, Rosé, and Selena are serving here but to start, here are just a few major must-try takeaways:
The makeup, as usual, is outrageously good. Check out Jennie’s eyeliner + stickers combination. That blue wing on top of the black flick on the bottom is exactly the right energy:

And I know I already talked about the sparkle freckles on Jisoo the other day but here’s another shot on Lisa. Probably takes forever but why not try?
As for Jisoo – between the hats, the fascinators, the headbands, and that veiled pageboy cap, the head accessories alone are a fulltime job to source:

Or Selena’s looks …which… I never expected a bright green visor to be this cute…
…but there’s a reason she opens the video in that pin-up style striped swimsuit with the sailor hat. Because it’s adorable.

Selena, by the way, has a co-writing credit on the song. As does Ariana Grande which may be why there were early rumours about a BLACKPINK x Ariana collaboration. Between those three fanbases, the song is getting a huge push. This has been a solid run for Selena between her show Selena + Chef on HBO Max, which was just renewed for second season, all her endorsements and partnerships, and generally what just appears to be an overall reinvigoration – I’m really curious about the next phase of her career.
