Dear Gossips,

BTS will perform the first of three concerts tonight in Mexico City GNP Seguros Stadium and the stop in Mexico felt like a state visit – not hyperbolic.

Yesterday they were invited by President Claudia Sheinbaum to the National Palace, where the person who holds the highest office in the country works and lives.

There’s a diplomatic backstory to this. In brief: tickets for the three shows in Mexico were sold out in an hour, after unprecedented demand, resulting in overwhelming disappointment. After complaints and controversy, Ticketmaster Mexico explained that “if the sale had been physical, the line would have stretched from Mexico City to the U.S. border, a distance of between 785 and 2,300 kilometers (488 to 1,429 miles). It also compared the number of people who visited the site to the capacity of 46 concerts at the GNP Seguros Stadium.” It is estimated that over two million people were trying to get tickets – exponentially exceeding what was available which was about 150,000.

President Sheinbaum then wrote to Korean President Lee Jae Myung to see if the Korean government might be able to assist in adding more shows in Mexico. President Lee’s office confirmed that they had forwarded the request to BTS’s agency. Which brings us to yesterday and BTS’s appearance at the National Palace for a meeting with President Sheinbaum but, more importantly, a moment with ARMY who had gathered outside. And… well… it wasn’t just a few people. Here’s the view from Jimin’s perspective, as shared on his IG stories.

Listen to them chanting the lyrics from “Hooligan” in case, you know, there was any doubt about how deeply invested BTS’s fans are in the music.

Like royalty, RM, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook greeted ARMY from the balcony. It was probably surreal for them too because they were all capturing the scene on their own phones… even Yoongi, who has been more active on social media lately, sure, with tour footage, but is well-known to be the most low-key on social channels.

Apparently 50,000 people showed up, including this adorable mom and daughter who don’t have tickets to the concert but were able to see OT7, on just a few hours notice!

Here’s the full video of the BTS Balcony, with reporters screaming over the screams, before RM addresses ARMY in English followed by Tae in Spanish.

Just seven kids from Korea doing king things. Mexico City, have a great time tonight and this weekend!
