Celebrity Social Media Round-Up for January 10, 2018

Now that Tyra is back at America’s Next Top Model, I’m tempted to watch again. It’s been a long time since the show debuted and the industry has shifted quite a bit, with individuals having more power of their brands. Social media and the “Insta Girls” as Vogue calls them, have changed it, too. Is there a selfie challenge? Or a Snapchat filter face-off?

Kaia Gerber lands her first solo Vogue cover (she previously covered Vogue Paris with her mom). Does this mean the supermodel roll-out is complete, or is American Vogue the ultimate goal? That’s a very tough nut to crack for models as Anna tends to favour non-model celebrities.

A couple of months back, someone wrote in to ask me if there was any tension between Rashida Jones and Tracee Ellis Ross because although the two grew up as family friends through their parents, they didn’t seem to ever overlap on social media or in their social circles. I’m happy to report that not only is there no tension, but these two clearly adore one another. (Lainey: also Rashida plays Bow’s sister on black-ish!)

The other day a James Marsden movie was on, followed by Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!, and it made me wonder who is more famous, James Marsden or Josh Duhamel. Would you say they are about even? I would have to give it to Josh because he was married to Fergie. And I wonder if that’s why James has never really been able to reach the tipping point – no high profile relationship to push him to the next level.

Again, Tessa Thompson has to refocus the conversation away from Lena Dunham and towards the work. You know who’s doing zero to re-center the conversation around Time’s Up? Lena Dunham. But she did do a (now expired) Insta story, thanking people who admire her work and mentioning being part of so many great “movements and moments” for women.

This was not meant as an apology, as much as an attempt to re-center the conversation around the work. The truth remains:
