Justin and Hailey Bieber are not super active on social media when it comes to posting, but they do keep up with the conversation about them. (That is how Hailey ended up accidentally following a Selena Gomez fan account.) I’m not knocking them creeping on social media– everyone does it, and most of us aren’t famous and don’t have tens of thousands accounts dedicated to dissecting us. So I understand how Justin ended up posting about a Shawn Mendes “like” on Instagram - it’s clickbait but it’s not significant. The only thing we can glean from this is that Justin monitors and posts his own stuff (which is why no one helped him correct their/they’re).

Liam Gallagher celebrates International Women’s Day! I looked it up and April 10 is Siblings Day. Do you think he will celebrate?

Late night talk shows are pretty toothless with the exception of WWHL (which we do not get in Canada. In the words of Dina Lohan, “injustice!”). Julianne Moore was a guest and revealed she was fired from Can You Ever Forgive Me? while the film was in pre-production. The director who fired her, Nicole Holofcener, didn’t end up directing the movie (but she was nominated for an Oscar for her screenplay). Julianne doesn’t brush this off as part of the business or no big deal – she was hurt. It still stings and she hasn’t seen the film. But can we take a second to consider how crazy it is that Julianne Moore (!!!!) was fired from an acting gig?

Calvin Klein is getting out of the runway and red carpet game – not a surprise after Raf Simons left in December before his contract was up. The “halo effect” (generating buzz off of high-end lines to stimulate sales for economical products like sunglasses and perfume) didn’t work for the brand – it was already too disjointed from licensing agreements. Many fashion journalists suspect that it will go the way of Tommy Hilfiger, which has been one of the few fashion lines that’s been able to adapt to the current market and has a lot of success with celebrity collaborations. When I think of Calvin Klein on the red carpet, it’s a minimalist, very American style. They’d have to snap up someone who wasn’t already in a creative partnership with LV or Chanel or Gucci. For women’s ready-to-wear, goop x Calvin Klein would be a great fit; Gwyneth Paltrow has worn the brand many times (including the 2005 and 2017 Met Galas).

Part of Rita Ora’s new video is heavily influenced by Britney Spears’ "Everytime", a classic. Beyond the tinkling piano keys (chills), the lyrics, the chase scene, and Stephen Dorff’s performance as the asshole boyfriend (his best work!), there is a lot of pop culture context. Britney and Justin had recently broken up, and the tabloids were firmly on Justin’s side. She was regularly being swarmed by paparazzi. It was a year before she met KFed. Everything about this video holds up, including her outfit – the men’s dress shirt over a negligee and the baseball cap. I can totally see why Rita wanted to cosplay a famous pop star.
