Speaking of the Bezos-Sanchez wedding, Charlize Theron had some words to say about it over the weekend. While hosting her fifth annual Block Party for the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project—which supports youth in South Africa—Theron said, “I think we might be the only people who did not get an invite to the Bezos wedding. But that’s OK because they suck and we’re cool.”

Theron also spoke about “moving backwards fast”, with US immigration policy that “has destroyed the lives of families” and saying “women’s rights are becoming less and less every day; queer and trans lives are increasingly being erased; and gender-based violence is on the rise. This isn’t just policy, it’s personal.” She also called out US cuts to African aid programs meant to prevent AIDS/HIV, saying the cuts “have brought HIV and AIDS programs in my home country of South Africa to an absolute standstill. All of this is not just detrimental, it’s dangerous; people will lose their lives — many have already, unfortunately, and at a frightening rate.”

Charlize Theron emigrated to the US from South Africa and became a US citizen in 2007 (despite once overstaying a work visa), plus she’s the mother of a trans daughter. When she says “Yeah, f-ck them”, you feel it in your bones because it IS personal to her, as a mother, as a South African, and as a resident of Los Angeles.

Theron was joined at the event by her Old Guard 2 co-stars, Kiki Layne, Marwan Kenzari—Hot Jafar sighting!—and Henry Golding, whose name came up again in the James Bond Sweepstakes. Golding says playing Bond is “every actor’s kind of nightmare,” but I don’t think that will be an issue for him. Don’t get me wrong, I think Henry Golding would be a great Bond, but Amazon’s wish list is reportedly topped by Tom Holland—my #1 pick in the sweepstakes based on conventionality, not my personal taste—Jacob Elordi (is he Bond or is he just tall?), and Harris Dickinson. These are bog standard picks for James Bond, clearly, they’re not looking to do anything interesting in the new era of Bond (it also feels distinctly like not wanting to cast someone who will set off racists).

Also at the event were Alexandra Shipp, David and Jessica Oyelowo, Ava Phillippe, Hot Ones host Sean Evans—they did a live Hot Ones at the event—and Supriya Ganesh, who we know best as Doctor Mohan on The Pitt

That is a woman ready for her moment. The Pitt season two is filming right now. Mohan will be a senior resident!
