Don’t Sleep on Geraldine
Early reaction to Thunderbolts* has been positive from what I’ve seen. The movie comes out next Friday, I screened it yesterday but the embargo doesn’t lift until next week and I’m always scared sh-tless about what you are and are not allowed to say so instead of telling you what I thought of the movie, I’ll talk about one of the cast members, and it’s not Florence Pugh or Sebastian Stan.
Flo is getting most of the attention and that makes sense, but do not sleep on Geraldine Viswanathan! She’s great in the movie as Mel who is Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s assistant – but there’s been online chatter for months about whether or not her role will expand because “Mel” could be short for “Melissa Gold” aka Songbird. I have no idea who Songbird is in the comics, I’m not Sarah. My uneducated totally uninformed opinion is that we need more Geraldine so however the MCU wants to make this happen, I’m down.
Geraldine of course is known for Bad Education and Miracle Workers. I, however, will always know her from Blockers. This movie is f-cking hilarious, I love it so much. I saw it in theatres, I have watched it at least four times since, and she is delightful in it. If you’ve seen Blockers, you know that Geraldine sparkles whenever she’s on screen. And that’s what she’s bringing to the MCU, they were smart to cast her.
Here she is with Flo and the gang at the photo call yesterday in London.
What else happened today…
After Nikki Glaser killed at the Tom Brady roast, there was one celebrity in particular who was super nervous about what she would say while she was hosting the Golden Globes: Timothée Chalamet, LOOOOLLLL. Apparently he was going to adjust his schedule to avoid it! (Pajiba)
I like this look on Chappell Roan, I mean from the thighs up. The dress is great, the collar is weird and dramatic. But those tights scare me, because it looks like things are growing out of her legs and I have a phobia about shrubs and certain vegetation. And also cars with toys glued all over them, you know how some people do that? It’s freaky as f-ck, a horror movie, really. (Go Fug Yourself)
A friend of mine sent me Becca Bloom’s TikTok a couple of months ago – she’s super popular on #richtok right now – and I did, I tried to dislike her, but I couldn’t. Soaliha Iqbal gets into why Becca is so appealing. Kinda like the real life Astrid Leong. (Mamamia)
I am very, very much enjoying Meghan Sussex’s influencer era 2.0 and this is exactly what I wanted out of her. Her latest gift is a first class influencer move – generous and petty at the same time, chef’s kiss and a touch of jam. (Celebitchy)
A food trend I fully support: disco fries! I’ve had the jjajang disco fries with black bean and pork gravy that they mention in this piece – they are dementedly good. (Eater)
