Dear Gossips,

The highest-grossing movie to date this year is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, topping the box office again for the third straight weekend and currently sitting at a worldwide gross of $747.5 million so it’s expected it will likely get to a billion eventually. Which means that, obviously, there will be more Mario.

And therefore more opportunity for Glen Powell… because he voices Star Fox, a role he pitched for himself when he cold-called producers, supposedly without any knowledge that Fox McCloud would be included in the new movie. The announcement that Star Fox would make an appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was met with a lot of excitement.

Hollywood is deeply invested in the Super Mario Universe – and there is no way there aren’t already early plans in place for another installment, or installments. So Glen’s probably lined up another job for himself, in addition to all his other jobs. Last week at CinemaCon, JJ Abrams presented footage of his new film, The Great Beyond, the first movie he’s directed since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, starring Glen and Jenna Ortega, expected to open in November in time for the American Thanksgiving box office, and the way they’re talking about this project, if it does well, there’s also the possibility of more world-building.

Glen, meanwhile, is currently working on a comedy he co-wrote with Judd Apatow (who is also directing) in which he also stars as The Comeback King, a country star in freefall. And he was seen last week randomly performing at a college bar in Savannah.

Not that he was really down and out, but after his last two movies, The Running Man and How To Make a Killing, underperformed, it’s not like Glen Powell is hurting.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
