House Cambridge’s Twitter account posted a message late yesterday. My first reaction was…is this a teaser for a trailer?

I don’t think I was the only one. Here’s my favourite tweet about Prince William and Catherine’s pre-announcement to the announcement:

No, it’s not an album. And it’s also not a baby, which is what so many people in the mentions were hoping. Or a tour. It’s the planet.

There’s a typo there – two times “the” in the third paragraph. So the Cambridges too need a closer eye on their copy.

They followed up that post with another one, a photo of William taken by Kate during their tour of Pakistan. Catherine of House Cambridge, Instagram wife.

This, then, will clearly be a Cambridge priority in 2020 as they increasingly step up their royal commitments and take more of a leadership role in the family. We saw them setting up these moves this year, using social media more creatively than they have in the past. And now, to end the year, we have a year in review video:

This is exciting by their standards because, prior to 2019, the Cambridges were pretty conservative with how they presented their social media messaging. This, by their social media standards, is still pretty conservative. For them, though, it’s a definitely a push forward, especially in what footage they included.

There’s a shot of Kate with her hands on her face, in a “silly me” gesture at the 1:29 mark that’s supposed to show a less formal side. Will is seen with a pint in his hand at one point, while Kate pulls one later on. And even that moment with Big G freaking out adorably at the football made it in. You remember that, right? One of the best royal videos of the year – he lost his sh-t and what we didn’t talk about enough at the time was how William tried to get him to chill out. “Too much, George, too much.”

And, yes, the Sussexes make an appearance too. Harry is seen with William at an engagement and the birth of Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor is celebrated. They’ve also included Kate and Meghan grinning at each other companionably at Wimbledon. At post time, House Sussex have yet to post their New Year social media message. Wondering if Archie will show up.

2019 was a year of a LOT of royal drama – and knowing the British royals, they will course correct for 2020. Can’t wait to see what that looks like.
