Dear Gossips,

Remember when Ryan Gosling was in a band? Actually he never stopped being in a band. The band is Dead Man’s Bones, alongside Zach Shields, and they haven’t released new music in 17 years but yesterday showed up on socials to drop a new single, “Lost in the Night”.

The single artwork features a familiar face.

And Eva Mendes isn’t just contributing her face to the music – she’s also apparently on background vocals on the track, same goes for Ryan’s sister Mandi. Noah Jupe and Rain Spencer star in the video.

It’s a haunting, moody, romantic track, not exactly radio friendly and certainly not TikTok friendly but definitely in line with the Dead Man’s Bones sound and style and, also, well suited for the season. Indulgent autumn melancholy, long nights, and all that energy. Interesting timing too considering that on the acting side, much of Ryan’s work has been so high-key the last few years. Project Hail Mary was the first box office hit of the year (and is in contention for Oscar nominations), and he has Star Wars: Starfighter coming next year and will begin production on the MCU’s Ghost Rider next year. (We’ll get to the other Ghost Rider news later.)

When he’s not making big movies and promoting them, however, Ryan manages to stay pretty undercover, even though he and Eva live in LA and are raising their children there. We don’t know much about his day-to-day and how they spend their time. Obviously some of that time, as we’re learning now, has been spent on getting the band back together.

But then again Zach Shields has been busy too. He’s a producer and writer, wrote a couple of Godzilla movies, and now he’s actually working on the screenplay for the Weapons prequel, Gladys, due in 2028. He and Ryan have now been friends for over 20 years, bonded over their mutual affection for spooky and horror. Fun fact– they apparently met when Ryan was dating Rachel McAdams and Zach was dating her sister, Kayleen. Those relationships didn’t last but the friendship remains.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
