Dear Gossips,

Last week was Canadian Screen Week, with award events every day through the back half of the week honouring achievements in Canadian film and television.

Jacob Tierney, best known internationally as the creator and showrunner of Heated Rivalry, actually won Canadian Screen Awards (CSA) in both the scripted and unscripted categories, because he is an executive producer on The Traitors Canada which won the CSA for Best Reality Series. Jacob also won the CSA for Best Direction and Best Writing for a Drama. In total, Heated Rivalry won 16 CSAs, setting a new record.

One of those CSAs belongs of course to Hudson Williams, who won Best Lead Performer, Drama Series, and showed up dripping in Bvlgari. Hudson is now the youngest actor to win the award and he dedicated half of it to Connor Storrie.

Here’s more of Hudson in the Netflix Canada portrait studio at the event. That skin is ridiculous.

Nadine Bhabha also won a CSA, for Best Guest Performer in Heated Rivalry. We’re about to see more of Nadine in a new series called Slo-Pitch, produced by Elliot Page, premiering on Crave later this year.

Plus, my forever idol, Hazel Mae, accepted the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism – not being hyperbolic, Hazel is a f-cking legend.

So it was solid representation at Canada’s most prestigious industry award on the last day of Asian Heritage Month, led by multiple CSA winner Andrew Phung, from Kim’s Convenience and Run the Burbs. Andrew is a delight, and there was a time when he didn’t there would be the kind of opportunity in the business for him to showcase all his talents. Now here he is, presiding over the Canadian Screen Awards, and opening the doors to more. This is Andrew, reflecting on those who made space for him.

Last night would have meant a lot to him, being on that stage, hosting that event. Congratulations to Andrew who earned every moment.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
