Hannah and Poppy after the finale
The Hacks series finale aired last night on HBO. It’s already being hailed as “sublime” and a perfect ending for the show. Every time an HBO series lands the finale plane, the folks at the network have to feel good, after the disaster of Game of Thrones.
Today, the first day of the rest of their careers, Hannah Einbinder and Poppy Liu turned up at the Critics’ Choice Association’s 3rd Annual Celebration of LGBTQ Cinema & Television, posing like they’re at prom.

Hannah and Poppy are busy post-Hacks. Poppy is currently starring in Boots’ Riley’s I Love Boosters, and Hannah stars in Jane Schoenbrun’s upcoming film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, which premiered at Cannes a couple weeks ago. It looks trippy and great. And, of course, they’ll be at every awards show from now until the SAG Awards next year. That’s why I don’t begrudge either of them the forgettable looks at the CCA event. They’ve got a long run of red carpets ahead of them in support of Hacks’s final trip down the trophy trail.
The CCA event also brought out Noah Schnapp, Paula Pell, Jane Lynch, and Dan Levy. Speaking of staying busy, I don’t think Dan Levy has sat down in like, four years. This year he premiered Big Mistakes, co-starring Rachel Sennott, on Netflix—it’s fun and an easy-breezy watch—and later this year he co-stars in At the Sea, a rehab drama starring Amy Adams and Murray Bartlett.
Amy Adams is starting to reach her “Leonardo DiCaprio desperate for that Oscar” era. She is trying every type of Oscar bait to finally bag her overdue Oscar. She’s got two chances locked in for this year, At the Sea and Taika Waititi’s next film, Klara and the Sun. Maybe Taika can finally get her over the finish line.
What else happened today...
Popsugar has launched a talk show, the first guest is Ariana Madix. When reality TV fame hits, it hits big. Ariana is still flourishing, now three years removed from Scandoval. (Popsugar)
The French Open is happening, which means we have Tenns Fashion. Naomi Osaka had a multi-layered fit from Nike x Robert Wun. She is working the courts of Roland Garragos like a runway. Good for her. (Go Fug Yourself)
And that makes two…or five, depending on how you count. Maddox Jolie has filed to legally drop “Pitt” from his surname, leaving him plain Maddox Jolie, which was his name when Angelina first adopted him. Maddox is now 24, and he is the second of the six Jolie(Pitt) kids to legally change his name, following Shiloh. But he’s the fifth to drop “Pitt” in a social context, as Vivienne, Zahara, and Pax have all been spotted not using Brad’s name in various contexts. Knox is the only one we don’t know the name status of, which is not a criticism. Brad Pitt 100% deserves this, but I feel for the kids. It can’t be easy, and however they individually choose to deal with the dissolution of their family is their business. From the sidelines and only half-way minding my own business, I support whatever they each choose to do.
In other Jolie news, Angelina is selling the Cecil B. DeMille estate in Los Angeles. With the twins turning 18—time! What even IS it?!—in less than two months, seems like she’s downsizing. It’s a beautiful home but sadly there are no new photos from inside the house. There is, however, a very zen video of the grounds. Sometimes I really do miss that buttery LA light. (Celebitchy)
Speaking of LA, Erewhon, the uber-pricey grocery store famous for its celebrity collab smoothies, has unveiled a tiered customer rewards program that runs up to $15K a year (there is also a rumored secret “black card” tier for the super-consumers). Hilary Pollack tried out the service and found it mostly caters to those already used to getting the best and paying for a “frictionless” grocery store experience.
I don’t know, y’all, I’m trying to get my grocery bill down these days, not spending more to shortcut the smoothie line. But then, I’m not rich and I’m not Erewhon’s target customer. I do wonder if this is some kind of recession indicator, though. The rich are seeking perks at the grocery store because maybe they’ve cut perks somewhere else? (Eater)
