Welcome back, Dr. Robby
Nightcrawlers! We are so back! The first teaser for The Pitt’s third season dropped today, confirming what was already unofficially official from earlier this year—season three will start on Dr. Robby’s first day back from his sabbatical.
The time jump this time is just a few months (supposedly, November), and Dr. Robby is returning to the chaos and the mayhem of PTMC.
You know what actually makes me the happiest in this teaser? No, not the prominence of Dr. Abbot, who is now a full supporting character, not just a guest star. It’s that Whitaker and Santos are walking in together. Santos threw a little tantrum about the prospect of Whitaker moving out and housesitting for Robby, because she is a deeply traumatized person with bad coping skills, but it looks like their friendship is still solid. I love it!
With Supriya Ganesh exiting the show and no more Dr. Mohan on the scene, Santos is now promoted to my favorite character. She was already high on my leaderboard, but without Mohan, Santos is now #1 on MY call sheet. I love Trinity Santos, she’s a horrendous bitch and she IS good at her job, and never, ever forget she was right about Langdon. What was she supposed to do, NOT report the guy stealing drugs from the hospital? A lot of people seem to think so!
Snitches get stitches and so on, and generally I stand by our national no-snitching policy, but this is one of the areas where it is, actually, necessary. Dr. Al-Hashimi’s reaction to finding out that Langdon wasn’t just doctoring under the influence but was stealing from PTMC should have been enough to show people that Santos did the right thing. And hard! It was her first day! She had no standing or reputation with these people, and she had to tell her new boss that his favored son was stealing! Not fun, not fun.
Anyway, Santos is a great character because she gets everyone riled up. Within the world of The Pitt, she moves drama along. And outside the show, she is a test. The Santos Test. Santos is designed to be a narrative trap to get you to tell on yourself. How you react to Santos says more about you than it does about the character. And boy, do a LOT of people tell on themselves.
The Pitt returns in January. That’s just five months away. It will tide us over while we wait for Widow’s Bay season two. Honestly, The Pitt committing to regular seasons that we do not have to wait years for is probably the second biggest reason this show is such a monster hit. People aren’t afraid to buy in because we know they’re always working on the next season. There’s no interminable wait. It’s as close to instant gratification as TV gets.
What else happened today…
Parents, take improv classes and ensure your kids will always be embarrassed by you! (Popsugar)
Isla Fisher sports Newsies core. I kind of wish the pants were a full-length trouser, I feel like this outfit is almost something. (Go Fug Yourself)
Wild speculation: Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are returning to the UK because “the American dream isn’t all it’s cracked up to be”. I mean…yeah. (Celebitchy)
Spooky season travel recs! I have lately been contemplating a trip to Salem, but Halloween seems the absolute worst time to go (overrun with tourists, I hear). Might make Salem a snow-season trip, instead. But if you’re looking for a horror-themed fall getaway, here are some suggestions. (Atlas Obscura)
