It was almost two years ago that we saw Cameron Diaz on the set of her first film since 2014’s Annie. That film, made for Netflix and titled Back In Action, now has a teaser, showing off Diaz’s return to acting following a decade-long break in which she focused on family and “taking care of [herself]” (she also launched a wine company).

Check out Cammie D back in action in Back In Action:

I’m not like, blown away by this teaser, but it is SO good to see Cameron Diaz on screen again! She’s never gotten credit for being as good of an actor as she is, and more, she has such wonderful screen presence. Truly one of those performers who just lights up the screen.

I also really like the symmetry of the films that bookend her hiatus co-starring Jamie Foxx. Their chemistry is the best part of the Back In Action teaser, and I like the optics of Diaz coming out of retirement for her old pal. If Netflix marketing doesn’t run with that angle…

But speaking of Netflix, they released another trailer yesterday, this one for a miniseries starring Colman Domingo called The Madness:

It’s giving The Fugitive

Netflix takes a lot of heat in the streaming wars, because they’re the first and biggest player in the room, but sometimes they make good stuff, and while I’m not totally into Back In Action, beyond Cameron Diaz, I’m warming up to The Madness. It looks tense, tight, and it has a great cast. It looks like the kind of series that will go down easy over the holidays, a thriller with a sheen of social relevance, yet doesn’t demand too much, like the TV version of an airport thriller, but anchored by Colman Domingo. I don’t hate that.
