Katie Holmes and Emilio Vitolo Jr were seen in New York City yesterday, as they do, and after weeks of constant togetherness, going from oh he’s engaged to oh he’s no longer engaged, he’s making out with Katie on the sidewalk, and questions about how quickly their relationship has progressed, we’re now hearing from “sources” with clarification on their situation.
ET has the exclusive from a “source” who says that Katie and Emilio have actually known each other for a year after meeting last fall. Right. So they met when his ex-fiancée, Rachel Emmons, was still planning to be his wife. And at some point, over the course of nine months, Emilio’s feelings changed… as he and Katie got closer and closer? I mean, the source doesn’t go into that much detail but I think we can fill in the blanks?
"They adore each other and can't get enough of one another,” says the source.
Oh I think that’s obvious at this point. But Katie and Emilio don’t care that it’s obvious. The source tells ET that they’re not bothered by the paps and the coverage because they’re in “their own little world”.
“This is the real Katie and she’s playing by her own rules now,” the source shares. "They’re so happy.”
Interesting the part about her “own rules now”…as opposed to…before?
“In the past it seemed like Katie would sort of mold to her partners’ lifestyle,” says the source, “But with Emilio, Katie is so authentically herself."
Two names immediately come up here: Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx. Tom Cruise’s “lifestyle” was Scientological and we saw Katie disappear herself from it eventually and Jamie Foxx’s “lifestyle” was a constant “let’s keep this on the low low”. Not that we needed any proof but the contrast between how she’s been with Emilio vs Jamie, without ducking or hiding or coordinated staggered exits is confirmation that Jamie was the driver behind those decisions. And for more than five years, she had to be satisfied with living their love the way he wanted it: secretly.
Now?
We are apparently seeing the Real Katie. Not Kate (remember when during the TomKat era they tried to get us to call her Kate?). But a Katie who is “authentically herself”.

That tracks. But to me, there’s another layer to his work and that’s where he works: New York. And I think the fact that he’s from New York is a major draw. When Ninja Katie left Tom Cruise, she established a New York identity. New York, not LA, was where she chose to permanently set up her life with Suri away from Tom and the Church of Scientology. Her Instagram handle is “katieholmes212”, one of the New York area codes. This is a New York romance between two New Yorkers. I wonder if that’s how she sees her own love story.
