Well this is a big get for Howard Stern. Spencer opens on Friday and Kristen Stewart stopped by his show this morning during this final leg of her promotional push – for the film; she’ll be on the Oscar circuit still for months to come. Kristen and Howard have a good vibe, and so presumably she saved this exclusive for him: she and Dylan Meyer are engaged. Per PEOPLE:

"We're marrying, we're totally gonna do it," Stewart told host Howard Stern. "I wanted to be proposed to, so I think I very distinctly carved out what I wanted and she nailed it. It was really cute, she did very well. We're marrying, it's happening."

Discussing Meyer's proposal, the Twilight star said, "I wasn't specific at all. It's not a given that I would be the one. You know what I mean? With two girls, you never know like who's going to fulfill what weird f-cking gender role thing. We don't do that or think about it in those terms. She just grabbed that bowl and made it happen. It was f---ing so cute."

Kristen has talked to Howard about engagements and marriage with Howard before. Back in 2019, Kristen told Howard that she was ready to propose to Dylan. That she had it all planned and that she couldn’t wait. Turns out it was Dylan who ended up proposing to her.

As we have seen over the last few years, Kristen has become more and more comfortable talking publicly about her life outside of movies. That wasn’t always the case, especially as she was adjusting to becoming so famous and at a time when she was figuring herself out, coming into her identity. When that happened though, as she has said before, it wasn’t that she embraced being a “role model” but it’s more that representation suits her well. And she could be representing at the Oscars in a few months.

Not that, obviously, Kristen is intentionally using her engagement during award season. But…also? It doesn’t hurt. As Joanna just wrote me, Neon, the studio backing Spencer, is leaning into her good news:

Should she win – and I know, we still have a lot of track to cover in this race, but she’s looking solid for a nomination at this point – Kristen wouldn’t be the first openly gay Best Actress Oscar winner. That would be Jodie Foster, technically, although when Jodie won her Oscars, I don’t think she’d come out publicly yet. Through Oscar history there are of course many gay Oscar winners and nominees …but few of them were able to be open about it. There’s been speculation for decades, for example, about Katharine Hepburn who is a multiple Oscar winner but we’ll never really know for sure.

So to go back to Kristen, being who she is, and where we find her during this year’s Oscar campaign, it does matter, it is important to people, to see her on the circuit, and on that carpet, and maybe on that stage contending for or even winning the crown jewel of the entertainment industry.
