Excuse me, but can we talk about the FASHION at the WNBA draft last night in Brooklyn?! Let’s start with league commissioner Cathy Englebert because we have been sleeping on her steeze.

Here’s an example, check out these boots she was wearing last month at a community engagement:

Now to last night at the draft, in a purple leather dress with matching platforms – like, OK, Madame Commish, do your thing:

Have we ever talked about a sport’s league’s commissioner’s style? No, because they’re mostly white men whose faces you can never remember. Or they look and dress like super villains – I’m looking at you, Gary Bettman.

Commissioner Engelbert, by the way, is standing next to Dyaisha Fair who is now heading to Las Vegas and looked sharp in a black tux with red accessories. My favourite suit of the night was on the athlete who is currently projected to go #1 at next year’s draft: UConn’s Paige Bueckers who is playing another year at the college level before going pro. But she was there to support her teammate Aaliyah Edwards, A CANADIAN!, drafted 6th last night by the Washington Mystics.

Look at Paige’s drip – all white, and it’s a vest over a silk shirt, with the beltbag and alllll kinds of natural swag:

Paige went viral last night by the way because she was, as the internet called her, the “ultimate mom” while cheering on Aaliyah:

Aaliyah was also in white… and serving!

A few other highlights, because I can’t do them all, there were SO MANY good looks, but let’s shout out Rickea Jackson who showed up to the draft like this, and this red pantsuit is already its own moment, but then changed into another great suit, this time in silver, for when the LA Sparks picked her 4th overall. We love a multiple outfit evening!

And then there’s Rickea’s now teammate, Cameron Brink, selected 2nd overall, also by the LA Sparks:

Seriously, some of these athletes are better dressed than celebrities. And are being dressed like celebrities. That would be Angel Reese who announced her decision to enter the draft two weeks ago in Vogue, once again confirming the relationship between sports and fashion, and showing up last night like this:

Angel was drafted by the Chicago Sky. And she begins her pro career wearing Bronx and Banco, styled by Vogue editor Naomi Elizée. It’s an auspicious beginning.

Finally, of course, Caitlin Clark. The #1 overall draft pick will be playing in Indiana and she also became the FIRST athlete Prada has dressed for the NBA or WNBA Drafts. A satin jacket over a satin skirt, and a glittery crop:

Met Gala in less than three weeks. These girls should be there!
