Barbie promotional tour is well underway. The cast was in LA yesterday for a photo call. I feel like they might be trying to get in as many appearances and press opportunities as possible over the next six days before whatever happens on June 30 which is when the current SAG-AFTRA agreement expires and that could mean an actors’ strike. If there’s a strike it’s unlikely that actors will be on red carpets and other similar events. So they need to put in as much face time as possible. Like there is a universe in which we may not get Margot Robbie in various Barbie promotional looks at premieres.
Not that the looks haven’t been prepared in advance. They would have started planning her tour wardrobe well in advance. This was supposed to be one of the most high-profile red carpet tours of the year.
This pink polka dot dress gives us some indication of what that collection will look like. Which, obviously, is all Barbie. In this case courtesy of Valentino. Swipe to the second photo in the carousel for the inspo.
So good right?
And not Chanel. I know it’s petty at this point to keep saying this. Which some people in the comments are doing too. But one of the bonuses of this press tour is that while it’s Margot’s job to wear Chanel as part of the ambassadorship, it’s also the job right now to make the clothes work for Barbie. And there may not be the right Chanel pieces to do that. They’ve obviously gone through the Barbie archive to try and match looks on actual Barbies to contemporary real life human size pieces. And this Valentino is such a great example, perfectly executed.
