The Heartbroken Hottie
Megan Thee Stallion posted on Instagram on Saturday, and then confirmed in a statement afterwards, that she and Klay Thompson are over because he cheated on her.
“Cheating” was the first word in her story, and she went on to explain his other shortcomings.
“Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house...got ‘cold feet’. Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season now you don't know if you can be ‘monogamous’???? bitch I need a REAL break after this one ... bye yall”
Obviously the cheating is a major betrayal, but as Meg lays out in this post, it wasn’t the only betrayal. Because as we saw over the course of their relationship, Klay was ALL IN – he did invite her to spend time with his family, he did share all the parts of his life with her, it’s not like she was forcing him at gunpoint to introduce her to his loved ones, his inner circle. So now that he’s claiming he has “cold feet”, it puts the past into perspective, and the perspective looks like PERFORMANCE. He was enjoying the new attention that came from being Meg’s boyfriend, all those bonus likes and follows on his socials when he took her to play golf, took her fishing…
Meg is saying now, on Instagram, that she’s realising that it wasn’t about her, it was always about him. And during the off-season, before what would be a miserable season, described by Sports Illustrated as possibly the “Worst Season of the 21st Century”, it was all fun and sunshine but the shine clearly wore off fast as soon as he started struggling professionally…while her career, naturally, has been going in the opposite direction. And still she stood by him, only apparently to be told that he can’t be faithful. Because getting strange every night improves shooting percentage? I mean, Klay’s closer to the end of his playing days than he is to the beginning, but sure.
Just so that there could be no doubt about what she meant on IG, Megan followed up with an official statement released to media outlets, including PEOPLE.
“I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay. Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward. I’m taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity.”
She sounds resolved but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. And she’s hurting pretty hard. It was evident on Saturday night during curtain call at Moulin Rouge in a video that has since gone viral.

The most liked comment on that post reads “Heartbroken and having to go to work is the WORST”. I think most of us understand this – the specific torture of being f-cked up over a lover and then having to do accounting or make a presentation, or serve coffee, or whatever it is that your job is. In her case, it’s dancing and singing and being the literal battery for a Broadway show, responsible for bringing energy to that stage. She went out there and got it done though because…unfortunately…she has some muscle memory for confronting pain and pushing through it.
That’s probably why so many of us feel for her right now. Because this girl has been through it. So when we saw her so in love, being so appreciated, seemingly, by someone who (we thought) understood how blessed he was to be in her presence, her happiness was a collective happiness. Hopefully, then, this setback is temporary. Megan Thee Stallion’s trajectory will not be hindered by f-ckass Klay Thompson.
Or the f-ckass parts of the internet that is, as usual, the worst where Meg is concerned. I’ve already seen so many fake posts about “what she did” to ruin this relationship, misleading captions paired to videos that cast her as the villain in this situation. And it’s not that I want to amplify the trash, but I say this as a caution for those of you who might come across that content. There are few celebrities who’ve been done as dirty as Megan Thee Stallion when it comes to the algorithm.
