The looks last night at the British Fashion Awards, overall, were outstanding. And if the upcoming award season is anything like it; we’re in for some really fun carpets. That said, the Fashion Awards are for fashion people and generally fashion people show up for fashion events in more imaginative ways than at film events.
Can’t imagine Simone Ashley wearing this to the BAFTAs, for example. But if she did that carpet would be a thousand times more interesting.
She is exquisite in this dress! And I know I’ve grouped it in with the silver looks but from the angle of my phone it did look silver. There are silver hints though - like purple silver? Light purple metallic? However you want to describe it doesn’t change the overall impression. The fit is perfect. And the hood! I am powerless to a red carpet hood that’s pushed back to sit like it’s almost falling off - it’s demure on top and sex on the bottom. Not only Kate Sharma.
Then there’s Naomi Campbell, a true queen, wearing Valentino - this is giving regal and superhero. I love how the dress falls and flows around her, because it’s both a cape and a dress and to break up all that silver, that little slit by the one shoulder is perfectly placed to show a hint of skin.
My favourite though is Suki Waterhouse. It might be my favourite of the year. This is Alexandre Vauthier and I wish we could see all the pieces in this look separately and compare them when they’re combined. On the bottom is a dress with what looks like chain mail strips cascading into a skirt with a fitted waist. On top it’s a cropped cape jacket, strong shoulders, and floral detailing that also looks like little rips - or maybe it’s really just that the fabric has been intentionally ripped along the bottom of the cape and skirt. And then the boots that also kinda look like pants that become boots - all of put together is 2022 glam-punk fashion excellence.
And the hair works too with her bangs and that 70s energy because…Daisy Jones and the Six!
Vanity Fair just released the first look at the cast and, as you can see, Suki (who plays Karen in the series) totally fits the vibe.
Daisy Jones and the Six, adapted from Taylor Jenkins Reid’s bestselling book (Duana and I were OBSESSED - link to one of those posts), will premiere on Amazon Prime in March.
