Prince Harry made a surprise appearance at the Super Bowl the other day, accompanied by Princess Eugenie. Yesterday the Los Angeles Rams posted photos of Harry visiting the locker room and holding the Lombardi Trophy to their social media accounts:

Harry’s not a stranger to American professional sports. Back in 2019, when the NY Yankees and the Boston Red Sox played in London, he and Meghan visited the Yankees locker room, remember:

Now that he lives in the US, he’s clearly getting into American sports culture. How long before he’s seated courtside at an NBA game? But would it be the Lakers or the Clippers? And with whom?

It was Eugenie who joined him for the Super Bowl and that was just as much of a surprise as Harry being there. Eugenie is likely staying with Harry and Meghan in Montecito, and while I wondered on Monday if she might perhaps be there for Lilibet’s christening, that was before yesterday’s bombshell about her father, Prince Andrew, settling with Virginia Giuffre.

It’s obvious by now that Eugenie is close with Harry and Meghan. And she’s with them at a sh-tty f-cking time. There are reports in the British press that Andrew’s settlement was finalised on the weekend, when Eugenie would have been with Harry and Meghan. Presumably then, she found out when she was with them. Which would also presumably mean she’s leaning on them for comfort.

So whatever’s happened between Harry and the royal family clearly hasn’t affected his relationship with his cousin. And in Harry and Meghan, Eugenie has two people who might understand more than most what it’s like to have a complicated, even disappointing, relationship with their fathers. Staying with Harry and Meghan is probably even more advantageous now than it was a few days ago because if Eugenie was anywhere else in LA, the risk of exposure would be greater. And right now, getting photographed is the last thing she needs.
